Your site must be aged, a good few years.

Your reports must be contained in a dedicated folder on your site just for Google News (if you have other non news content on your rss).

Your reports must have at least 3 digits (numbers) in the url.

Reports must be original and there's no one-man-operations allowed, you need at least one other person to contribute reports.

Your site must be on your own or company domain name and hosting (shared hosting is ok).

You must display a real address and phone number on your site.

And you have to apply to Google to accept your site as an official news source.

I've done it many times, it takes a while but can be done and it's worth the effort.

Just had a thought, if you're tired of trying to get your site listed as a news source in Google News, there's plenty of press release services out there like prweb.com and many others who will submit your articles to Google News and other agencies.

yes I tried PRweb.com and they wont take my site due to its content so I have to sell my 360.00 press release (if you know anybody) and use business wire. I like your idea so I will work with a programmer to get a phone number on the site and get us into google news!!!

How do I apply as an official news source?

How do you set up your reports must be contained in a dedicated folder on your site just for Google News? Do I need a programmer for this?

Apply to get your site listed in Google News here Contact Us - Google News (publishers) Help

A dedicated folder is just another directory on your site, for example; yoursite.com/news (that is if you have other non-news content on your site).

I have a site that is included in Google News. I don't have it in a specific directory, but I do have an RSS feed that pulls from the news category which is what I submitted to Google News.

The site runs on Joomla and there are SEF components available where you can configure the url to include a unique number at the end of each article made up of the date and the article ID.

Reports only stay in the Google News index for around 30 days I think, it isn't very long at all. An archive of previous reports will help the Google reviewers decide if your content is worth indexing, but they won't index your entire archive in their news aggregator.

Last time I looked into it, to qualify to have your content appear in Google News you had to have three staff members. This doesn't include if you go via a press release service.

My partner and I checked into it about a year ago as we were running a very popular entertainment news site, but we were told at the time that we could reapply when we could basically demonstrate that we had a staff of journalists and were more than just an individual's website.

This is another press release service you can try going through however. Someone posted it here a while back: Press Release Distribution To Google News

You can find google's requirements here:

Like Kezz said one of the most important factors when it comes to getting accepted is having a staff of writers. They don't need to be real (I know many sites use pen names) but you need to make it look like you're not just a 1 person operation. My suggestion is to get some interns and have them write a few articles daily
