Looking for software to parse paypal notifications

I'm selling several continuity products through paypal.

I want to ship these products after the buyer pays their monthly subscription.

Can anyone recommend a software application that will extract data from outlook express email messages and put it in a file I can import into excel?

Many thanks in advance,
Kirk

VBA can be used to program Outlook, but not Outlook Express.

A more elegant solution would be to use a script like 7 dollar scripts or a more advanced membership script like butterfly marketing or my personal favourite rapid action profits.

I already have almost a dozen subscription physical products set up and being sold for delivery on various schedules.

Can either of these be implemented retroactively?

        Unfortunately, no.

Assuming your subscriptions are set up through Paypal, they currently do your billing automatically, and there is no way to change those subscriptions to "magically" start communicating with Rapid Action Profits or the 7 dollar script.

Both scripts are set up to automatically receive notification of payment directly from PP, but PP must be informed, at the time of subscription, where to send those notifications.

You could set up future sales of those products on Rapid Action Profits so that future sales would be tracked for you.

There is also an Add On for RAP to handle physical product delivery. I don't know the nature of your physical products, but 3rd party shipping of CD/DVDs can be handled with the automated Kunaki interface, or you can manually ship other products, if desired.

Depending on the attrition rate of existing subscribers, it would take some number of months for all sales to be managed by RAP, but your back-office workload would be reduced significantly as RAP took over those tasks for you.

        Hope this helps,

      Thanks Sid,

      That is what I thought.

However, last night as this old weary body lay in bed waiting for the sandman to sprinkle his magic pixie dust, I thunked of another thought.

I happen to use a small script from Stellar Web Design to redirect copies of the PayPal IPN to a couple of scripts (Wishlist Member and IdevAffiliate) so they can each track the sale.

It dawned upon me, sometime between the sandman and dawn (trying hard to work humor in here, so please forgive me), that all I needed to do was create a script to receive a copy of the IPN and add it to a MySQL database, which could be polled by my FTP program and automatically downloaded for use by my spreadsheet.

May sound rinkydink, but I have the parts and can implement it pretty easily.

About my products, they are industry specific manuals which are sold with monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual updates (depending upon the topic). The manuals are three ring binders, and I am migrating to Mimeo for fulfillment, but the updates are three hole punched plain paper, and I am thinking I will handle fulfillment in-house.

Since subscribers come in at different times, setting up a calendar that will advise me of all the permutations would be a pain in the gazitchka, so taking advantage of the PayPal IPN system to send an alert will simplify my life greatly.

Cheers, and thanks for the information and update. I was just refreshing myself about the $7 script yesterday, wondering how my target market would react to IM methods.

    Kirk,

My suggestion would have been like you said in your certain message, to take advantage of the ipn and take the data from that as opposed to scraping from emails. The problem with scraping from emails is that paypal is a bit unreliable in sending and also they sometimes send different formats of emails.

If you are already using the IPN, then perhaps you could ping the RAPs script from the present IPN page so that it does integrate for retroactive signups also.

Hope I am not being too confusing

    Hey Kirk,

You didn't indicate in your OP that you were using IPN, nor that you had the IPN distribution script from Stellar - and I didn't want to make those assumptions.

Your solution could be made to work.

And, as Ben said, with a little work, RAP could also be made to pick up subscription payments for pre-existing subscriptions.

      Ah, that sounds interesting.

Sorry I didn't indicate I had the Stellar Redirect script and was using the IPN. Yesterday I was fixated on scraping emails, I had forgotten that they were a bit unreliable. (Which I have discovered.)

Converting to the RAP script in that method might be fun. I'm going to get this working, as it will be quick and easy, but moving over to RAP in this way may add flexibility.

Reckon RAP can send an advice to Mimeo as well as Kunaki?

      Cheers

RAP integration should be very doable in conjunction with the Stellar Redirect script - but that wasn't really the point I was trying to make. I was really just trying to tell you that your one-off integration plans (using the Stellar script) sounded very doable.

Of course, if you want to use RAP, to extend this even further - GREAT!

As for Mimeo integration... we haven't looked at that one yet, but I'll see what we can find out.

We try to limit it to only the things that count!

one an additional note, using RAP's Kunaki Addon - you could use the manual fulfillment feature... one doesn't have to use Kunaki only... that's the only automated fulfilment method addon with RAP - but there are others using it for the manual fulfillment side as well.

    just another 'thunked thought', Kirk!
