Does IM work without a product??

Hiya

If I had a service based company creating bespoke websites for people asopposed to selling a product. How would I go about building massive lists?

What would people want to sign up for?

It doesn't matter whether you offer a product or a service... just create a free report with good information about the topic you're involved with and have people opt in to get it.

as Gene points out you need to have something to offer to potential clients

you need to demonstrate what you have available and show them why they would want to do business with you

so besides doing this you also need to spend alot of time driving that traffic to that offer

it requires work and time, there is no quick way

Do you often need several free items to keep them interested?

Offer something of value to your visitors and they will optin to receive it. Think of some sort of trial offer, free report, service or anything else related to your paid offer.

Build the list and offer them solid value. Once this is done you can market them your paid services which they should buy without thinking.

You can create a squeeze page (box asking for name and email) to capture their details by offering them a free report, it could be titled 7 things you must know before you create your website''. If you cant do this yourself get a virtual assistant from elance or guru.com, you should be able to get someone that can do this $50-100. The key is to offer people value and

Are you targeting people with existing sites or people seeking their first site?

For the ones with existing sites, offer a FREE "Site Profitability Audit" of some sort. Analyze the design, usability, SEO friendliness, etc.

For the ones seeking a new site, offer a FREE report about 10 questions to ask any web designer before you hire them or something along those lines.

Besides that, get some articles published in your local newspapers, etc. and aggressively seek joint venture partners in your area.
