Multiple sites targeting the same niche or a single site with brand name?

Would it be better to create a website that is completely keyword optimized for a certain keyword? I mean have the keyword in the domain name, title of blog, etc. and continously build more websites targeting specific keywords in that niche. OR would it be better to create ONE website with your own brand and have the brand as your domain name, blog title, etc. One would use multiple keywords for this one website that targets a specific niche.

Anyone have experiences with either? what are your opinions on this?

    hey Baldwinkoo,

I rate you to dont use a brand domain. Never had real success with it. you can have if you have a PR5-7 domain. If you dont use single domains for everything.

    Hope that helps.

    Cheers,

What works best for me is ... both!

Have one big brand name site and several little more specific ones. (you can have the little ones linking to the big one)

Great response. This is a good way of going about it.

But, 1 test, is better than 100 opinions

Test it out and you will see whatworks for you or not. What works for one person, doesn't for the other.

        Good luck.

I would go for a semi-branded domain not targeting your exact keyword phrase.

There are multiple benefits to it, among them:

1/ You will build an authority website

2/ Your conversion ratio will be higher, because you will have more credibility than with a thin website

3/ If you build them well, you will get great rankings for hundreds or thousands of keywords you didn't even think about, and not only from the ones that you are targeting

    4/ It costs less money

It's not theory, I have done both.

I have recorded a video series about that and it's available here:
eUser Reviews How To Create Niche/Authority Websites Tutorial

Moderators, there is nothing to sell on that page, I just find it useful to the conversation as it shows exactly what BaldwinKoo is asking about.

Depends on the niche. It's hard to get your name out in a fat loss niche with simple "brand" unless you have a REALLY unique approach. However, if you have some unique product that is never seen before, branding might work just well. See Twitter for example.

Wow, thanks everyone, these are some great tips. I will definitely test both methods to see what works best.

    Happy New Years!
