My Website Home page...Help!

Happy New Year Warriors,

I have been tackling this one website for a little over a month now. I understand as a newbie I picked a pretty competitive niche to work on so I understand why I haven't been getting much traffic.

I want to try to improve the site as best I can and was looking at the home page or landing page and wonder if it should be changed.

It doesn't feel right and I am sure I am missing something but I can't see it.
The site is written around a particular product I am trying to sell but so far I haven't sold anything and it's kinda getting to me coz I have worked hard on this, my first site.

Can some of you take a look at the page and offer me advice on what I can do to improve it?

Do I need to be more pushy with the product?
Is it too commercial?
Am I fighting an upward battle?!!!

Thanks,

Andy

As you say you aren't getting much traffic yet - I would suggest you focus on that.

Bookmark each of your posts with the popular bookmarking sites - for example, reddit, digg, mr wong, amplify, stumble, delicious. Bookmark each article and link back using your keyword as the anchor text.

Do this over a few days.

Write some articles around your keywords and submit them to the popular article directories, for example Ezine, articlealley, goarticles.

Do some keyword research and try and find some long tail keywords - these are easier to get ranked for and will start bringing you organic traffic from google/yahoo/bing.

Set up free blogs and link back - try blogspot, weebly, webs, squidoo, hubpages, tumblr, yola.

Find some relevant questions on yahoo answers and post a helpful answer along with a link to your site.

    Hope some of that helps.

Yes, thank you that is all helpful.

I have to say that I am already doing all that and yet still I have very little traffic.

I have around 30 articles with EZine most a minimum of 500 words. I am starting to think that maybe they are too informative becuase many people seem to be reading them but only a trickle actually click through to my site.

I have tried to follow most of the basic article writing ideas...I think I am ok with that.

Anyway, I figured maybe my landing page wasn't up to scratch which is why I am asking all your advice.

      Thanks,

      Andy

Your page looks pretty good, if it's indeed a first effort than you are to be commended. As rosetrees has already said, you should concentrate your efforts on traffic building.

Have you install Google Analytics or another tracking system on the site? It would be very important to you to be able to track where visitors are landing on your site, and where that traffic comes from. For example, you say you have already done a number of link building tasks like article marketing, but do you know which articles are pulling in the traffic? Analytics or a similar program could tell you this. Armed with this information you would then know what is working for you, what needs improvement and where to focus your efforts.

Best of luck with your site and much success in 2010!

I think it's kind of hard to test your landing page and know what works until you are getting a bit of traffic. Otherwise you will just blindly be making changes - how will you know if what you changed improved conversions?

One thing that might help you get more traffic is to look at your stats and see what keywords your landing page is being found for. Then check out what rank it is in google. If it is not #1 for that keyword then do the appropriate link building to move it up. You will need something stronger than bookmarking to move your pages up IMHO - the suggestions that rosetrees makes should work for you.

Not to say this is the problem, but when I clicked through to your site Zone Alarm alerted me that your site was suspicious and not to enter any sensitive information. It says the recommendation was based on the length of time your site has been registered and the strength of your security certificate.

With that said, the glaring thing that seems to be missing IMO is elements of proof. Most fat loss / weight loss sites go out of their way to use before/after shots and such, testimonials, to show what others have achieved using their programs. Your site has a prominant image that looks like the tummy was photoshopped.

Good luck getting the conversions to happen. It sure is fun when they start to happen.

Thank you all for your help.

mywebwork: Yes I have Google Analytics set up and I have checked where some of the traffic comes from and it seems most are from the websites URL or name. I don't really have any other keywords searched in there.

Most people tell me it is coz of the high competition niche I chose. I understand that but I am really working hard on this and don't seem to be getting anywhere! I should leave it alone for a few weeks and start on a second site but I don't seem to want to do that until I at least get some organic traffic or see some life somewhere!!!

cashcow: Yes you are right, I need to work on traffic as there is no way of knowing if someone likes my landing page or not right now. Traffic seems to be my issue.

FlyBaby_Renee: I have never heard of zone alarm before and not sure why it would assume there is a problem with my site.

    Thanks,

Zone Alarm is like Norton - antivirus software. My guess was perhaps you hadn't gotten an SSL certificate.
