WP Themes that don't require a link back?

I'm looking for a WordPress theme that has the following characteristics:
  1. Doesn't require a link in the footer to the developer
  2. Preferably doesn't look like a Blog, but more like an HTML site
  3. Isn't real expensive, or maybe even free
Anyone found a good theme or site with designs like that?

Check out Blog Wave at Blogwave: Free WordPress Blog Theme | Custom Theme

After you install it gives an option to remove footer link.

    Its free

They are typically mixed in on every site since the websites don't actually design the layouts themselves.

There's actually a WSO by Cindy Ramsey that involves wordpress themes that are more like html sales pages.

  • Buy a theme you like. Buy a multi site license. Then you can remove the link backs.

People waste a lot of time chasing "Free". People that claim to be Internet Marketers, but don't have a few dollars to do it right.

Doing it right has nothing to do with buying WP themes... or anything else for that matter.

In fact, it's not the money to buy wp themes that will make you a high profit IMer:

People make good money selling to the rich. But the rich got rich selling to the masses.

    Great ideas folks.

Arun - Blogwave looked nice, but didn't allow a sub-menu system.

MADULALI - I bought Cindy's WSO. Gotta re-look at those! Duh.

InternetMarketingIQ - Free is nice, but not a requirement.

ProductCreator - That's kind of what I always thought. I wish I new the real, legal rights to remove links, so I wouldn't have to worry about it. Trying to do the right thing. Where's an Internet lawyer when you need them.

Personally I'd completely avoid any theme that required a linkback or somehow encrypted the footer to prevent you from doing so. All the themes listed in the WordPress.org theme directory are GPL, so you're free to remove links if you want to.

You can also find commercial GPL themes on the "Commercial" page in the theme directory. Apparently I can't post links since I don't have enough posts, but just look for the "Commercial" link when you're on the WordPress.org theme directory.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll look into integrating sub-menus into the top page navigation. As of now it only displays pages one level deep.

Also thanks to Arun for mentioning it. There is a checkbox in the theme options page to remove the backlinks to my site.

Mark - I'm not an attorney but here is the opinion of an attorney regarding themes from the Wordpress site: WordPress › Blog Themes are GPL, too

I primarily use themes from ithemes and Studiopress because like having reliable support for client sites.

I also like iThemes and agree it is a viable resource for good themes and most of them have a good deal of flexibility with the layouts.

To eliminate footer links from WP Themes
I suggest you invest in WP Building Software
    like Artisteer.com

You can produce WP themes and even export
    the html version too

You are allowed to remove the links yourself. It might not be polite, or what the designer wanted, but it's possible. Just go into the footer.php file and remove the offending code. On 90% of themes, it's very easy. For the others, you can hire a programmer who would do it for you for about $5 on just about any freelancing site.

fish - thanks for coming out from hiding! LOL I'll definitely look into Blogwave with sub-menus.

fernando - totally agree with ya man. Figuring out where to spend your money (outsourcing, themes, PPC, etc.) not to mention your time, is a big part of the success for an IMr. Do I build backlinks, write articles, build properties, Tweet, create a new PPC campaign, or do bookmarking next? Tough calls. But they can make or break ya.

Odhinn - thanks. I'm very capable of removing links in footer, that's not my question here though. I know it's not "polite" to remove them, but it reduces (slightly) the overall effectiveness of your site, so I wanted to know the legalities. Amy's post above does the best job I've seen of explaining it to date.

An example of this issue is - I have a membership site (not in the IM niche) with 2,500 members from all over the world. I found that 12% of my total clicks on one of my key pages were going the CopyScape link I put on the bottom of the page. I don't want to know how many pageviews I lost, how much stickiness I lost, or how many members never came back after clicking (leaving my site-new window) on that link. Who woulda thought?

      Thanks everyone!

It might be possible but IMO, the license should be respected. There are plenty of GPL-licensed themes (both free and paid) out there which permit you to modify the theme however you want, including removing any author backlinks. Like I mentioned before, all of the themes promoted on WordPress.org should fall in this category.

I think 2 years is a long enough lurking period, lol. Anyway, I'll let you know when the sub-menu navigation is ready.

Just don't forget someone put work into the themes and hand them out free in exchange for that link, they need lil traffic too. so don't blindly remove someones link. otherwise mine as well make your own theme.
