OK Warriors, a Marketing Challenge

Warmest greetings to you all and Happy New Year!!!

I am a pianist who recently completed a 3 CD set of music that is cutting edge meditative, relaxing, debussy-like solo piano with a touch of jazz. I have completed a website for it and am seeking ways to market the website which sells my music directly online. I am seeking professionals, JVs, and more to assist me in effectively making more sales from my website by driving targeted traffic who will buy. If you know any other way to increase sales, market the music effectively, build a big fan base, etc, your help would be greatly valued. I am hoping to hire an effective marketer or have effective affiliates. I believe once anyone hears the music they will believe in it. Please PM me. All thoughts, ideas, suggestions, and modes strategies to achieve the full potential of this remarkably unique and beautiful solo piano project.

-Hassan

P.S. this music is great for studying, painting (there's a painter I know who has been listening to it every single day for over a month as he paints), meditation, for taking a relaxing bubble bath, for sophisticated classical listeners, for relaxation, for sleeping, for dinner parties, hosting company, after you wake up in the morning, yoga, working online, etc...its really universal in use.

You can do that by hiring someone like me who's a copywriter and search engine marketing and social media marketing expert. That means helping you drive traffic from search engines and social media sites like Twitter, Facebook, etc and making your sales copy/website convert the visitors stopping at your website.

Other than that, you can do all that yourself. There isn't enough tips to get you started, but here's a summary of what you need to do:

    1) Get traffic from search engines, PPC and social media sites
    2) Capture leads where ever possible
    3) Have compelling sales copy to convert
    4) Upsell/downsell/resell/cross-sell
    5) Find partners to help promote
    6) Track results, tweak, improve, rinse and repeat

    Good luck.

    • Hello Mr. Lam I appreciate your thoughtful feedback and wanted to ask you if you think I would be able to find any affiliate marketers who would work on comission or even someone with a large email list of say, people who are interested in working online, and then sending them an email that says something like, "ever get 'computer-brain' after being online too long? Try this ultimate 3CD set of unique and beautiful relaxing piano music to make your time online much more relaxing and pleasant!" something to that order or something different for a different market. What do you think? I am not very tech savy and have an unbeatable learning curve when it comes to doing what you do online. So I suppose I am hoping to meet some people with big lists and then just give them half my profit or some arrangment as such.

      Sincerely,

      Hassan

No, that would be a bad approach.

I would tell you to offer to give your product to others to get some testimonials, but with the new FTC rules, you can't really do that.

What you can do though is make an offer for others to have it and mention that if they like it, they could promote it to their list and get a 50% commission. This could get you started, but certainly not how I'd want to continue running everything.

You really need to look into social media marketing but SEO will be good too. "relaxation music" gets 22,200 exact result searches a month. And based on the result pages (broad, exact and in title), it's really not that bad. You just gotta know how to do it and the right tools to get you there.

    Again, good luck.

Hi Hassan. Good to see other musically inclined warriors here.

You should really try to get your music on iTunes, that is a great place to start to get it out in front a lot of people.

Another marketing strategy is to us music libraries, many allow you to upload your works immediately for free, and set your own price etc. I use productiontrax.com for my music. Some people make good money doing this alone, it's pretty will give you an instant start, unlike getting digital downloads approved which can take months or even years.

For distribution check out CD-Baby. They will submit your track to lots of different digital distributors (Amazon, iTunes, eMusic, etc..), for a fee but it takes time to get approved.

Also, put CD's up for sale on your own site so people can buy directly from you. (Instead of third parties taking a large cut of the profits) I prefer to sell digital downloads on my site so people can hear the music instantly after they purchase instead of waiting for the CD to ship.

Find record labels who sell similar material to yours and send them demos. You can also contact production music companies which need to license music for advertising and marketing. That's something also I'm doing.

Next go to Myspace, YouTube, Facebook and Twitter and create a presence there. Be sure to put your URL in the description of your videos on YouTube. You need to use social sites to not only put up samples of your work for people to listen to but also to connect with other musicians, marketers, and producers.

Finally don't forget about Article Marketing. Write a couple of well written articles related to your music which have your chosen keyword in them. This should give your site an extra SEO boost.

The musical business can be tough for an independent artist but from some of the stuff I hear on the radio (and off too) reminds me there are buyers out there for almost any genre with the right amount of marketing.

Whew! That was a long post but I hope it helps.
