EzineArticles Guidelines

Man, I'm a little confused after reading the EzineArticles guidelines again. (haven't done it in a while).

They make big, specific points on affiliate links and redirecting:
  1. EzineArticles.com Editorial Guidelines: (AFFILIATE PROGRAMS):

Affiliate links will be allowed if the link is a domain name you own which forward/redirects to the affiliate link from the top-level of the domain name. For example, it is permissible to forward to an affiliate link from:

    http://your-company-name.com/

...but it would not be permissible to forward to an affiliate link from:

    http://your-company-name.com/page.html
    http://your-company-name.com/subdirectory/
    http://your-company-name.com/subdirectory/page.html
    http://sub-domain.your-company-name.com/

Any article with an affiliate link that does not adhere to this guideline will cause the article to be rejected.
When I started reading articles on their site and clicking on links in people's resource boxes, I got a lot of affiliate sites, some seemed direct and some looked like the "illegal" subdomain forward (4th red line above).

Have they changed their thinking on affiliate links? A few years ago I got an article rejected and the link was to a top level address of a site I owned. It was OKed quickly...but i was surprised at the time that they rejected it.

Now, with some of the links I have been clicking on in resource boxes, I'm not sure what is really "legal" to them. Like I said, I have clicked on links and have gone to a lot of affiliate pages...directly it seems on some. Others have been redirected it looks like, but not always according to their guidelines.

Anyone see this stuff too?

Thanks,

Andyf

    Yes...

    I see it.

Your best option, is to stick to the guidelines yourself, then you won't get any issues

There are thousands of articles that directly violate the T.O.S. of EZA, we'll never know why they are there... but we do know that adhering to the T.O.S. is the best way to ensure you can still use the service for your own benefit.

    Peace

    Jay

p.s. Forget what you see others "getting away with" and focus on doing your thing, and doing it hot!

p.p.s. The above is only my opinion and is free to be ignored...

I agree as I have known of where articles were pulled from the site after being posted for not following the guidelines.

I have no trouble with sub-domain redirecting or sub-page redirecting to
an affiliate offer. But usually i use separate domain for my author box.
This way i can build backlinks as well as can promote my niche.
Although, i am not familiar with Ezines this guideline.

      Here's the magic question...

What makes you believe it was redirected when they submitted the article?

It would be easy to have a simple page for the reviewers to land on when they approve the article, and then after it has been approved enable a redirect.

You'd still have broken the TOS, which is not a good idea, but you'd have successfully stepped around the approval procedure.

Sometimes what looks like an affiliate link is not.

I have many links to my own products that look like affiliate links because
I have a number of subdomains.

I had to go through quite a bit of back and forth before I got these links
approved, but once they had them marked in their system as OK, I had
        no more problems.

Links are not always what they appear to be.

You can just buy a cheap .info domain and then redirect it directly to the main vendor site using your affiliate link. I do that all the time, saves you a lot of time doing a landing page.

      Good point...thanks.

I'll take a look at the blog, too. Good stuff.

A possibility might be to have a link in your resource box that goes to a page on your site that has a big button above the fold that says something like "Click here for the best deal on "whatever you are selling". Then put the rest of the words on your page just below the fold, or just below your "click Here" button separated by a line across your page.

Then you can get your own page ranked and get some traffic EZA as well. I do not think it is in your best interest to break EZA TOS.
