Recruit more affiliates

We had a late night brainstorming session tonight and I would like to post something here that emerged from the meeting. I wish we filmed it but hey-ho, we know for next time.

A lot of you guys will be familiar with this concept, it's nothing new and the very first commercial site I created over a decade ago used this principle, but in a very different way (I used it for SEO purposes back then).

I haven't seen it being mentioned too in depth on here, maybe I've missed it or it has been discussed to death before I arrived. In which case I apologize.

Anyway tonight the subject of affiliates dominated the meeting. It was a long meeting but I'll try to condense it down for you.

One of our niches is SEO, so we looked at the customers needs - not only their SEO needs but what they need before they look at SEO as an option and what they need once the SEO has been done.

The aim is to position our product early in the sales/thought chain, even implanting the idea of SEO before they may have considered it for themselves. Then we looked at what they need directly after our product.

(The reason for looking at what they need after our product is mainly so we can offer them a third party product via an affiliate link that we earn from - an opportunity is still an opportunity)

So, if we have a product in the gardening niche (we don't and don't plan to), we should really be approaching seedbanks and garden supply stores. In addition to giving these companies a cut for promoting us, we can in turn receive a cut from their affiliate program (and if they don't have an affiliate program, there's an opportunity to help them build a 'real' web site )

Providing them with example emails, banners and promo material goes without saying.

The meeting lasted several hours, but that's about the jist of it.

I know this will be obvious to a lot of you, and I haven't seen anything about this for a while, just thought I'd point those who are new to marketing in the right direction, if they needed it. I'm getting a lot of questions about this in recent weeks.

What's your methods for attracting more affiliates?
