Production Creation - Does anyone actually ask what people want ?

During working on my product creation schedule for this coming year I thought how many Internet Marketers / Internet Producers actually ask you guys what products they want to see ? What they want to know about ?

Is there any website that does this ?

It got me thinking further... Im thinking of setting up a website where people suggest what products they want, what they want to learn about , even what PLR content they want to sell etc...

It could go even further, the site could pay people for suggestions that actually got produced, and give the suggester a copy etc ...

Are there product that people just haven't developed yet that you would like to see ? Would you use such a site and submit ideas ?

Thanks all

They want products that have more "stuff" than "fluff" I've seen so many rushed informational products that have absolutely worthless or out-dated information with fancy graphics. 2010 needs to be the year of solid online informational products that focus on the customer's needs/wants, and not the needs/wants of the seller.

I tend to agree with your statement. 2009 seemed like a fluffy year.

The thing I find most lacking in products, are the exact steps to do something. It never fails for me- I purchase a product and there seems to be a step missing. Needless to say, it makes the learning curve that much curvier. Now I know you have to add your own twists to certain methods but I personally would value "an honest teacher that does not deliberately leave a step out." I might even stay on someone's mailing list because they have built trust with me.

So that too will be my focus for 2010, creating valuable products without the fluff and no steps knowingly left out.

I think a site like that would be really useful - I could see a lot of marketers getting some great ideas from it.

In regards to people asking others, I do see this quite often actually. Usually they will have a poll on their website - or if you are subscribed to their newsletter they will ask you to fill out a short survey in exchange for a gift. I love it when they release the next newsletter with the results of the survey, I always find that the most interesting - and it keeps my eyes open for their next newsletter - so good little marketing trick as well!

I've also seen a few posts here on the forums asking about what people are interested in.

Won't looking at what sells on CB, CJ, Amazon tell exactly what peopel want?

Most of the time, people do not really know what they want until it is offered to them.

I never knew I could want Market Samurai as I was very happy with Wordtracker.

I never knew I could want "the Butterfly marketing Manuscript" as I would never have thought of such a thing.

I never knew I would want "traffic secrets" as I was quite happy with Corey Rudls marketing manual.

Did you ever know you wanted Eban's "Altitude" or Frank's "Mind Control" before it was marketed to you?

In 1990, I never knew I would want to use an "internet" or "cell phone".

But as you are asking, I really want something that lets me press a couple of buttons and makes me money.

Perhaps I will never know if I wanted your "ideas" site if you never create or test it.

      Hi Appollo creed

Im not sure looking on CB tell you what people want, as much as just what they are buying most.

Im more talking about things people think they would like to do or learn about that aren't around or not easy to find etc.

I agree with you about Mass Control and Butterfly marketing etc though ..

Crazy that you mentioned this today, Mark. I just scheduled an autoresponder msg today about this! I basically said..."Here's my idea. What would you like to see in it? How could it help you as an internet marketer?"

    Awesome thread!

The problem is what IMers might want may not be what people in the world want. So you could create things for IMers who have no market to sell it for.

There are a couple of idea sites around, which send you an idea a day and they are free.

Can you share where some of these sites are?

When Creating a product this is what I teach. Don't ask the consumer what they want. see a problem-offer a solution. for instance diapers problem big mess solution diapers. now called pampers but I think diapers are still used.

You will get a very very narrow margin if you ask a group of people what they want the fact is people want products that are of quality and make their life or job easier.

Here's the thing that I'm struggling with...I don't know where to look for needs, even here in the Warrior Forum. I know that I can write. I am trying to get into the PLR game. I know that people need PLR material. I know that they need it at a good price. What is it that they are looking for? Where would you look for that?

I put lot of work into writing articles for a niche that, I suppose, turned out to be a very crowded market. I know that it was the one of the two subjects that I got the most orders for while doing ghost writing for others. Apparently there isn't the demand for it that I thought.

To avoid falling into that trap again, where do I go to find what people want and what they are willing to buy?

        Hi rayn,

You already answered your question my friend. give them what you know they want. PLR put them in packs and sell them with rights.

          Thanks, WD.

The problem is too many people know they want this and the market is saturated, i suppose.

I wrote on the weight loss niche. 20 articles. 16 were supposed to be for blog posts and 4 for article directories. The price was reasonable and it wasn't moving. I dropped it even lower and it still isn't moving. I mean I got one sale but it's a far cry from being able to even pay for the WSO and the bump I gave it and the WSOPro I used to make it go smoothly. I won't even talk about how little sleep I got for several days trying to put it all together.

Sometimes knowing what people want isn't enough. It isn't enough to put a quality product out there either. If the market is saturated, you may have a great product but it's hard to see a pretty dogwood tree in a deep forest.

I just have to find find niches that aren't so heavily saturated. I've done research on 10 other niches but I don't know how the market is for PLR works in those niches.

You're supposed to write about what you know and are familiar with but it the market isn't there or the market is too crowded you're going to have a hard time.

I never would consider entering a niche without researching it. It can be done with a short PPC campaign and does at least two things,
it does find out what they are looking for!
(50%+ of people entering 'Hamster' in a search engine have either just bought one or are ready to buy one and their number one concern is how long one lives and what they can do to make it live longer.. usually because there is a child involved and the parent wants the hamster to last past the time that the child will be emotionally ready to accept the death of the hamster. This information is hard to find on the net for free. There are, however, several e-books that you can pay for that have the fact that that info is in the book in the bullet points of the sales page. Conversions of people entering that keyword who hit a sales page with those bullet points is through the roof. If you didn't research that, you would figure selling info on hamsters was an effort in futility when in actuality, there is at least one person I know that makes high 5 to low 6 figures on that book alone.)
And 2, it prevents you from wasting time in a non-commercially viable niche.

To do the research, set up a PPC campaign to a page with a questionnaire as to what they are looking for, and how hard the answers have been to find. Offer a copy of the book as a thank you for filling out the questionnaire. A smart researcher will have a place they can optionally put their phone number and a best time to call. Talking to a few can radically boast the success of a campaign by making sure the most often looked for info is in the book and making sure the sales page says that.

This seems so obvious to me, to me, not doing this would be like not bothering with keyword research either. Just throw up a site and pray.

(As a side note, if the word entered is 'Hamsters'... plural, the searcher is researching for a school paper or has a child that has expressed an interest in having one, but actually buying one is still a good 6-12 months away. Imagine not putting the plural in your negative keywords or wasting time ranking for it. No research, you wouldn't have know to stay clear of the plural!)

I poll my list members once in a while, but fishing for ideas from them seldom pays off as well for me as just making products I know they need and then explaining to them why they need the product I made. I guess that's kind of bass-ackwards to some, but it works for me.

The problem with asking that question, especially out in wide open, is that people either tell you the wrong thing or on a public forum like this, other people poach the idea before you get to it. See what people are asking about, instead of asking yourself.

I've thought of that. In a place like here it will let everyone know what you are thinking and try to beat you to the punch or say something that takes you down the wrong path.

    Hmmm,

Ok Rayn, let's see you put a wso on but didn't get many sales there is a huge desire for plr articles that are unique but it seems you did not get much success.
    Ok.

Try this. try putting a huge package together offer PLR with it create a graphic and sales page and try it again. sometimes it is the presentation of the product not the product itself.
