What pumps you up more- Self Help books or books Teaching how to Make Money?

I was just thinking about how much more excited I get to take action when I read a book about making money rather then a typical self help book. An example would be a book I just ordered called "How To Make 1000.00$ a day within a month" this book got me really energized and pumped up.

Now the second book called "The Power Of Now" did not get me as excited to take action, and I struggled to read it. I finished the first book in a day and the second it took me weeks to do. Is anyone else like this?

    That made me think...

I believe it's true that when a specific number is mentioned I get more excited. Tony Robbins is someone I like to listen to, but the stories of success that mention a specifc $xxx amount seem to be more inspiring. I guess it is because I project those dollars into my life and dream of what I would do with them.

I think you're right, the motivation is there when you read a book on how to make money, especially when the book has clear steps to follow. The one problem that I had (when I was starting out) was that the person telling me how to make money online already had my money. This was a bit of a downer.

In terms of self help books, I haven't really used them in a business sense but I have used them more for personal development and in that sense they are also good.

I really get motivated when I leisten to recordings, the most recent of which was Jim Rohn (legend RIP) and also a little book called your attitude determines your altitude.

Just my two pence, interesting post

Whilst I don't like the term "self help".. I do get what you mean..

So, I would say, self help.

    Jim Rohn once said:

"It is much better to work on yourself, than it is to work on your job!" - And since this makin' money thing is my Job... I happen to agree with him

I get much more pumped in learning how to better myself and increase my own value to the world.. than I do reading how to xyz books....

    Peace

I truly don't want to be a downer,

I don't read self help books because there is a greater book that guides me, and how to instructionals that actually do help me are very rare. (I did just receive one this past week that is wonderful!)

However, I am a people person and investing my time making new friends and exchanging ideas, as well as helping others and having others help me is a pumping up experience and fun as well!

In addition, nothing pumps me up more than trying the new things I've learned and being successsful in them, and having those I've helped come back and say thanks, that really helped, I appreciate it!

      I guess I'm just a little different!:p

        That's exactly what I was thinking ^

Just the feeling of actually taking action and accomplishing a goal fires me up more than anything.

Self help books usually cover how to follow your dream and making money is only one possible dream(but certainly a good one). So if your already know your dream and it is making money, it makes sense those books would be more appealing to you. Others may not have discovered their dream or have a different dream and would probably like self help books better. Thanks,Ed.

If I ever found a self help book or course that really worked I would be more pumped up then ever unfortunately I have bought a lot of self help CDs and courses but none of them worked. Everything from subliminal CDs to the Release Technique. Everything and anything I could think of to change my subconscious but never really got results. So I guess a Make money Book would pump me up more as I already know how to do it hahaha

Depends on the book but for the most part books that have solid information like make money books do, pump me up more than self help does

Definitely the make money books made me feel more excited.

      Books like:

How I Made $1,000,000 in Mail Order by E. Joseph Cossman

How You Too Can Make At Least $1 Million (but Probably Much more)
In the Mail-Order Business by Gerardo Joffe

The Robert Collier Letter Book by Robert Collier

Getting Everything You Can Out of All You've Got by Jay Abraham

Those books made me think a lot more and made me think there were
a lot of possibilities to make money even though I haven't really made
      much.

      Books like:

Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill

      Psycho-Cybernetics by Maxwell Maltz

How To Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie

Those books didn't really make me feel like I could get anywhere even
though they were about bettering yourself. Think and Grow Rich is one
that I have read many times and yet I still don't seem to comprehend
      very well.

The only thing that really got me excited in Think and Grow Rich was the
story about the person who was digging for gold. It let me to doing a lot
of research on gold and where to find it.

Here's an idea. How about a self-help money making book? How you can help yourself by making money.

I think "I made $40,000 bucks in 10 days" sometimes is a bit out there.. but now a days I can just read the sales page and determine if the system is any good.

I like hearing stuff by Frank kern, Tony ribbons, hell I know people that base their entire lives around Tony ribbons

Well for me, it is depends on the author or the title of the book(s). How to make money is good but self help last forever. If I have enough time to read books then I prefer the self help. because this gives me more strategical approach to make more money.

I personally love videos that teach you how to make money... Those frank kern and tony robbins videos hype me up.. I have tons of them

But I think equally both type of books rev me up, but if I had to choose it would be how to make money books for motivation to go do it..

The self help books give me a better outlook on life which makes the overall experience better...

Yeah I know I was all over the place with this one, but hey lol

I definitely prefer books by gurus such as Ewen Chia. Other books on making money are fine, but I need the nuts-and-bolts stuff.

I am referring to physical books and not ebooks. I have to make constant reference to the book to keep me going. It serves as positive reinforcement to keep going when I feel a lack of drive.

Even better than self help books, or money making books....books that no one applies

-One of my top 10 marketing books is "Stealth Marketing" by Jay Abraham. It's old by now, I dont know when it was originally written, maybe late 80's, early 90's. It's probably considered one of his mid range books (vs his mass market book like "Getting Everything You Can"). It's about 340 pages, without an ounce of waste or fat. And you realize no one applies it or does it.

It's a good mix of marketing, case studies and strategies. Seeing that no one applies information is more exciting than just self help to me.

What pumps me up the most is relationships with other people, especially those people that have really figured out something special in their lives. I have been fortunate in recent years to meet an abundance of such people, and my advice to others is to really seek out people. Don't just settle for the present situation.

    I don't think it's a matter of either/or, but A then B.

Making money is great, but it's useless if you're mind's in the dump. It doesn't matter if you make six figures or more, you can still be miserable as all hell.

Work on yourself and your mindset FIRST. Sure, it's not as sexy as "Make 100K in a month", but it will not only help you succeed faster, but with a healthy mind, you ENJOY your success a lot more.

    Great thread

I have read way to many self-help books and in the end realized the authors are making money selling self help books, so unless that is your angle you need to get into the market place of life and sell a product or service. So I gravitated more to writing things I could sell myself and learning the IM business. At this point I don't need the pump from generic self help, but I do feel there is more specific skills I need to learn like copywriting, IM skills, negotiating etc, so I look for books that add to my skills where I need it.

On another note, I realized when I spend more time writing as opposed to reading my income goes up. So now I force myself to write; ebooks, advertisements, blog posts, articles etc.

First i set a purpose. Then I set goals to contribute towards that purpose. I like to read things that are in line with my purpose and immediate goals or focus. Sometimes that is an instructional book on how to earn money on the internet. Sometimes it is how to improve the facets of my life that need changing to better accomplish my purpose. How to guides, self-improvement books, the Bible, the forums and email are some of what I read.

keep your eyes on your purpose. Focus on what you can be doing right now and act on it. Rinse and repeat.
