I know it's time for New Year's resolutions and all that. I have found myself being sidetracked by certain things lately like traveling, family and events. Now that I'm supposed to be back at work online I am finding it hard to motivate myself. Anyone else been in the same boat? Want to share what motivates you to keep plugging along...?

I have a wife and 5-month old son whom I want to spend more time with. More than half of my income now comes from online, so I'm almost there. I could probably quit my day job, but it's only part time and provides full health insurance, so I'm not giving up that gravy train.

      Hi Oregongal,

What motivates me is working on things I enjoy - even if I have to figure out a way to enjoy the stuff I don't really enjoy so much. LOL

Like if I try to hurry up and churn out a bunch of articles on a topic, the idea of doing that doesn't inspire me at all. But if I decide to take my time and make them really good articles, search out some interesting facts or ideas for them (or use any way to make the job more interesting) I notice that my creative inspiration takes over and 1) I enjoy the work much more, and 2) it takes even less time than it would have if I tried forcing myself to hurry up and get it done.

Being inspired is a great motivator!

Get in your car and go to the dealership that has your dream car. Request to test drive it. Put yourself in front of the things you want, but can't have. Let those images, smells, sounds, etc. stick in your mind, and then each time you forget why you are working so hard, remember those things.

My family is my motivation. I worked full-time online to have more room being together. It is so tiring and time consuming to go to office where the owner is not you. Being your own boss is what I really like since high school. This is what I dreamed setup, so I make it fruitful and will stand on this decision.

Some good ideas here. Since I do a lot of writing, I like your idea madwoman. I know what you mean by taking time to create a special article with a little extra something in it. And since I love to travel, I'm going to post some nice travel pics up by my work area.
    Keep the ideas coming!

Waking up every morning in the projects... I've had a very hard up bringing, and I know that I'm going to live my dream and every day I wake up I imagine myself living breathing and doing everything I've ever dreamed of..

I want to help my family succeed and anyone else I can... Everything motivated me!

I don't really even require motivation anymore, I just look at it as something I have to do to accomplish what I want in life. Nothing more, nothing less.

My past achievements motivate me to achieve something new today and tomorrow.

What motivates me is not castle-like houses, million dollar cars or anything that I can't buy now. The real thing that motivates me is the freedom. Yeah, it is that simple. You can buy everything with your money but you can't buy freedom. If the only things that motivate you are the things that you can't buy now, then you are the slave of those things and this world.

The thing that motivates me is freedom. The freedom to spend time with my family, the freedom to travel, the freedom to choose what to do with my time.

Of course, the hard part is finding the balance. While the path I've chosen in the IM world isn't as labor intensive as some, it does require at least a few hours of my time each day, some days more than others. The thing that I still struggle with the most is time management.

Not that I still don't have room for improvement, but one of the things that has helped me to focus on doing what I should be doing is something as simple as using a kitchen timer when I'm goofing around on the Internet. It's not an original idea, but it does work. I'll give myself 1 hour to surf the web in regards to non-business related topics. When the bell dings, I start working on my niches.

Best of luck in the new year,

    Will
