Happy Holidays Warriors.

When a comment is left on a blog you usually have to fill in name> email> website etc. I was wondering if those emails are stored in your database somewhere? What about the follow-up feature on some blogs.. how can we proove we had consent to send them emails from our blog.

In a nutshell can we build a list that can be used for promotion (with the relevant warnings/disclaimer) from emails of those that have commented or is it wiser to only allow comments after the visitor has become a member/signed up to the blog?

    Alright mate.

With the follow-up feature, to the person commenting, they will only be expecting other comments on the issue they comment on... Not promotional emails at all. They didn't sign up for anything for you to send them any promotions or additional information.

Only promote to people who have signed up to your list, or, you will more than likely be marked for spam in peoples email accounts.

    Hope that helps

if you have a statement on your form saying that by commenting and using this website, you agree to receive information from this website through email, then it will be ok... legally it will not give you trouble, since the user does have "prior relationship" with you even it is a weak one.. but if you are not upfront about it.. a lot of them will click that "SPAM" button, and you are done
