Hey everyone,

Just saw this and wanted to make a quick post. "Inside the Mind of Google", a one hour special on the mighty "G", is starting in a few minutes. It is being broadcast on CNBC. It's channel 355 if you have directv.

Taken from description:

Development of the popular internet search engine and the company's plans for the future.

Looking forward to it, I'm a bit of a Google fan, I've got a hat and everything, lol.

EDIT: This is being rebroadcast 1/14/10 at 9pm EST

Paraphrased: In 2008 Google earned over 4 billion dollars, mostly from advertising on their network.

How many newbie budgets on PPC is that? lol

It's really neat seeing inside of Google's company. I can't believe the level of catering they give their employees! The place I use to work for could learn a few things from them.

It seems Google understands the value of getting and keeping good employees, and treats them accordingly.

That show has been playing for a good month now, that was the last time I watched it anyway. Same with the Coca Cola and Mc Donalds one.

It's pretty informative I guess... though in my opinion it's geared toward the very GENERAL, "AVERAGE" public, and rightfully so (that is their audience). So, as someone knowledgeable in these matters (more than the average person at least), I found it to be entertaining and somewhat informative, but nothing over the top.

Imagine if they weren't happy. The would drop so much google info to everyone. They keep them happy to keep them on board.

I wanted to know more about the Google/Youtube relationship. Google lost a bit of money there and still is. How much are they spending with the new HD feature implemented on Youtube? I've heard they're even going to support 1080p.

The "trust" concerns with Google may have validity to an extent, but then again can't that be said about any giant corporation?

Do you trust the developers of the operating system you're currently using on your computer? (Microsoft, Apple, etc). Imagine if they weren't happy. Do you trust ebay? They have information on millions and millions of people. What if they weren't happy. Amazon? WALMART? Best Buy?

Your local drugstore where you or your friends/family/neighbors get their prescriptions filled? They have all your information. What if they weren't happy?

What about your local supermarket where they keep tabs on your shopping habits with your rewards card?

If Google decided to "disclose" the whole world's search queries to the open public, I don't think it would do anyone any harm. Not unless you went on Google and typed stuff like "I want to kill [such and such]", and then 2 days later "[such and such]" ends up dead. But then they would deserve it wouldn't they...

I think people need to worry less about trusting Google and more about how they can use them to their advantage, or not use them at all!

My personal opinion on Google is very simple at the moment: What goes up must come down.

I've seen it twice already. They don't really talk about anything of real interest. At least that was my understanding of it. They talk about some cowboy boot store that is using Google AdWords and a lot of talk on just how big Google is. But if you do watch it, watch the part were they try to explain how Google ranks there search results. Its totally wrong. They say all you need is more backlinks then the next guy, but we all know there is a lot more that goes into it then just backlinks.

The special just focused on a custom cowboy boot maker, and how he drives his business through adwords.

I looked at his site and drumroll please..................the index page is all flash! I also looked at the source code and its not exactly SEO friendly for what the site should want to naturally rank for either.

So who's going to call them and pitch natural search results services

Even being a full-timer for over 5 years and knowing more advanced stuff, I still enjoyed the program overall.

There were some HUGE lessons in the cowboy boot story that a lot of newer Warriors would be wise to get. Specifically that Pay-Per-Click/Adwords works phenomenally well when it serves a REAL product.

A lot of newer marketers are led to believe that PPC is a business model unto itself, that tons of cash can be made just by testing and running some ads, then forwarding click-thru's to cruddy affiliate offers, etc.

The usual result is that people go a few months having spent hundreds (or more) on PPC with little to no financial return. Gee, I wonder why that is?

This cowboy boot company starts with PPC and immediately their revenues jump 20%. Let's look at why.

    - They are a real business with a top-shelf product (handmade cowboy boots)
    - Their cheapest boot sells for $500 (gives a heckuva cushion to the ol' PPC ad budget)
    - Their PPC campaigns are naturally targeting BUYERS (uhh...people who want boots!)
    - Their business has a history and a STORY to tell (boots sold to a lot of famous folks)

Bottom line - Pay-Per-Click is *not* a business model unto itself. But when a REAL business exists that's already providing quality and value to its customers, PPC has the power to dramatically boost that business.

Translation: Focus on building a real business with a real product or service that provides tons o' value. Then watch how profitable all these IM strategies can *really* be for you.

    Excellent point Ken,

I looked last night and couldn't find any ads for the cowboy boot company. He mentioned in the special that they aren't utilizing adwords anywhere near the point that they could be.

It makes me wonder, if they wanted to, could they have their business increase significantly more? (they said they is ALREADY a four week waiting list for new boots)

Think of the possibilities that brings for businesses. Pretty amazing.

Now internet marketers selling AdWords or Google related products can also add an "As Seen On CNBC" logo on their sales page!

    EDIT: Sarcasm.
