I am thinking of using a clickbank product for my first dabble into affilliate marketing, is it a good place to start, or is there other avenues you would advise.

I could say yes and no at the same time because I don't know your experience with affiliate marketing. Most newcomers might find it difficult to make money with clickbank, especially when just starting out (due to difficulty in choosing the right product).

Thanks for the reply, my experience is nil to be honest, and that was one of the biggest stumbling blocks i could see was picking the right product, as there is so many.

No problem, you are at the right place at WF.
Spend some time here and search for the threads on clickbank, you'll find a lot of information inside.

If you can afford, spend $37 in war room membership, you won't need to buy any product from clickbank for startup knowledge.

Have you tried browsing through some of the products sales pages? Make a note of the sales pages that draw you in, compel you to keep reading and even tempt you to purchase.

Those are the sales page that are likely to convert browsers / prospects into buyers.

Those are the niches you need to do some further research into and discover how popular they are.

    Hope this helps.

I'd say pick a niche first, then choose a product.

Pick a niche based on keyword research (i.e. there is a demand and not too much competition) and also how much you know about that niche (so it is easy to write content and be seen as an expert in the field).

Whilst picking the niche, research what product you can sell (Clickbank and other networks too) and once you have found a niche that has:

      • Reasonable demand
      • Not too much competition (but a little may be a good thing!)
      • Suits your knowledge / passion
      • Has relevant products you can presell, review or recommend
Then you have not only a good product (s) to promote, but a good idea of how you are going to promote them, and who to.

To be fair if there's several products selling on clickbank in the same niche, or even two or three, the chances are there IS a market.

The system you outlined is a good system but sometimes a bit of 'outside the box' thinking can speed up the process.

@GarryMSayer - I agree with you, niche choosing is a tough skill, which I found very difficult at first and I am getting better at, but I think it is hard to sum up all of thinking involved in a few sentences. A few failures does help people improve at it :-)

To be honest, I have purchased 2 products off clickbank and refunded both of them because they were complete garbage. Which there seems to be more of than good stuff.

Not to mention if you live outside the united states, you have to wait up to a month to receive your cheque then another 3-4 weeks to clear assuming you meet the minimum requirements to cash out in the first place.

Therefore I think you would be better off biting the bullet and creating and marketing your own products instead.

Just because 2 products from clickbank were garbage doesn't mean they all are (my product is good quality for example). Clickbank is more like a supermarket - you will have some rubbish products there and good ones too, but you need to know how to spot which is which.

I never said they were all garbage, I said most are garbage. Obviously you need to use a little intelligence when deciding the quality of the product, check the quality of the sales page, email campaign etc.

In the past I have even resorted to outright buying the product to determine whether or not it was worth promoting and refunding if it was crap. and guess what, excluding the two I mentioned above which I purchased because I was a noob and kept falling for the usual hype and crap looking for a easy way out which does not exist, I refunded each one because they were all recycled crap.

        or very poorly produced.

Its not a matter of if YOU think your product is good, its whether the ONE BUYING it thinks it is good.

Besides, obviously as you created it you think it is good

Personally I prefer Tuneup Utilities to handle my pc maintenance needs. So unless you can beat its feature set and price, I will stick with what I got atm.

And as I said, most are rubbish and in the long run, you are better off creating your own products.

Obviously it depends what niche you are promoting as well.

I agree! However it may be easier for a newbie (and I consider myself fairly new too) to try affiliate marketing first.

And yes if you did a % "is it rubbish" "is it good" you would probably find that most are rubbish and a few are good, but that's the same with many things, like buying a website on Flippa for example, or choosing which post to read off the main forum

The sarcasm of this post is dripping off my laptop onto my lovely newly laid carpet but I don't care.

It doesn't matter. Just start with a niche you are familier with and passionate about. I really don't think products are more important than your ability to sell.

If you can sell, you can promote any product.

going back to the original point and the reply from the emporer. definitely the best way to go for a newbie is to do some market research BEFORE choosing a clickbank product. Clickbank has some many ideas and products on there that it is to easy to get sidetracked and end up with a dud. Doing it the other way - check out hot product areas (preferrably niches) and then search for a product to fit that you can sell. Yes, you will make more money with your own product, but I am guessing that you are not ready for that yet. Good Luck

I'd like to thank Alexa Smith for her encouraging words about Clickbank products. I have just started promoting products from Clickbank and I must say, that it's not that very easssssyyy. Anyway, I will not stop trying until I get the monthly figures I aim. I'd like to share here a very valuable tip I learned from another internet marketer how to filter CB products that you may want to promote. You will be able to find there the top products with higher gravity. The popular a product, the higher its gravity. The gravity of your CB product should be with at least 100+. You can search any products in any categories whether they're on top 20 or 50. I still can't post any links here, so I'll try if this works. Try to find Clickbank Search (cbengine). It's the no. 1 CB marketplace website.

For an absolute newbie, I think Amazon is a good place to start and get some experience. Their products convert well, especially if you have the a keyword targeted site, and they obviously have the big trust factor.

My approach is perhaps a little different but it is profitable for me.

I look initially for a niche where I can find a good number of keywords that I can promote to build traffic. I spend a lot of time doing keyword research.

As well, I also check what products are available to monetize this traffic. If there is a suitable product on Clickbank, I am more concerned with whether I think the merchant has the ability to convert this traffic into sales.

However, I regard this source of revenue as only temporary as I don't intend to always send the traffic to a Clickbank merchant.

It's true that I still make sales to products like FatLoss4Idiots but that's only because some early articles I wrote continue to attract a strong number of views and I don't want to tamper with the resource box of the original article.

My intention is to find a niche where I can successfully draw traffic and then satisfy that traffic with my own product, so I use Clickbank simply as a stopgap to test the market.

When I build the website, using the keywords previously identified, I design it primarily to capture opt-in leads and only then send the visitor on to the merchant.

Once I am satisfied from this test that the particular niche has good profit potential, I build my own product - or even a series of products. This also requires my own sales page for that product.

Since I already have the traffic flow in motion, I redirect that traffic to my own sales page and sell this product. As well, I expand the traffic promotion even more to increase the number of visitors.

As I usually look for niches that target the same demographic, all of the products I build can then be cross-promoted to my different lists.

Targeting Clickbank can be profitable, as many have demonstrated. I'm also concerned with building a reliable, long-term business so I have this in mind from the very first steps of considering a new product or entering a new niche.

      Ivan

I would consider anything with a gravity of over 30 if your just getting organic traffic. With ppc you probably should look for something right around 100 or higher. Although gravity is not a measure of how well a product converts, you want to be sure that if your paying for clicks that the product is indeed selling. Also I would not promote anything with ppc that pays less than a $30.00 commission. Cheap clicks are tough if not impossible to find these days.

I don't think gravity or commission return have any effect on gaining a return on ppc over any other level or commission payout , a good product, good promotion and spend less than you make are all you need.
