You Must Love the Things You Hate to Succeed Online

When I get up in the morning the first thing I ask myself is "what are 5 things I have to do today to gain more traffic to my website". All 5 are things that I just hate to perform.

Why would I hate them? Because I am lazy and I would rather go the beach and do nothing. I want the shortest road, the quick way, the get rich by doing nothing.

You know, the lazy mans way to riches.

Well I spent a lot of time hoping that things would just happen without any work. This brings me back to the things I hate to do but are a must if you want to succeed at making money online.

I have made a conscious switch in my mind that the things I hate to do I now love. The 5 things I love to perform each day are....

1. Writing and submitting informative articles are now the top task I love to perform each day. I found a simple strategy to help me pump out 5 articles each day. When I start I will take my topic for the day, "link building", "free traffic", "article marketing" and then search on Google for information about this topic. Once I find a nice article or press release I will read it and then add 5 bullet points to my text editor about that article. From there I just start typing, not worrying about how bad my spelling or grammar is. With this I can type out a nice 500 word article in about 15 minutes. And this is good fresh content that I can post to articles directories.

2. Twitter and Facebook are 2 website that you must start to love. These sites are the place that "ALL" people on the internet hang out. This is the best place to drop a few lines of text and add in a link back to your website. Love em or hate em, these sites have massive amounts of traffic.

3. Everyday I love to update my personal blog and all the other free blogs. I like to use WordPress.com and Blogger.com, both are free and they will let you take your new article and add it to there site. With your link at the bottom... of course.

4. What I hate the most but I fight through it, and now I love is answering questions on Yahoo. Why do I hate it, well because I want to be on the beach and not answering question on Yahoo. But doing this will get you some big time traffic back to your site. Try and be the first to answer a question and add your link as the source.

5. What I really do love the most is posting on forums. This is a place that I can talk with like minded people who share my common interest. And its a place to inform about new products.

Can you believe it? These are the things I "hate to love each day". What I find so funny is I struggle to get them done and they only take about 1 hour out of my day. But once I am done then I have the rest of the day to go and play at the beach.

I completely agree In the past I have been completely lazy when it comes to things like building a list - I found all the steps I needed to take in Aweber and such to be a bit fiddly, so it was easier not to do it. Easy doesn't bring in results though - I'm now spending lots of time on this area, and as a result is becoming a big part of my entire marketing strategy(as it should be).

In the past it was easier just to write a few articles and submit them to EZA as I knew I'd get a decent burst of initial traffic. Now I get the most I possibly can out of each and every article, both in terms of the actual content and syndication/backlinks etc.

I could go on and on - some of the mistakes I've made in the past make me cringe, thankfully I know exactly what I've been doing wrong in a few different areas and how to fix it.

On Monday morning, my first day back at 'IM work', I opened the curtains and saw the guy that lives in the house opposite warming his van/truck up for what seemed like an eternity, he then set out to work - outside in the snowy, icy conditions. THAT'S hard - writing content, building backlinks etc etc ISN'T. Yes, it can get boring, but I don't think some of us realise what a fortunate position we're in by earning a living(or trying to in my case) online

I like your perspective, of turning to love these things. Yeah, its kind of strange, when I was explaining to a close friend what I do (he thought for a minute of trying out online marketing) he said "that sounds really boring". He didn't pursue it further lol.

Call me crazy, but I do enjoy some of the things you mentioned above, and when you start to see results from it, it does become more "fun".

A goal for people is to get to a point that you can pay others to do this "fun" stuff for people. That's really fun!

      Hey Tyler

      Thanks for the great post.

I think now im loving to hate you.

I too am lazy and when it comes to articles im really lazy.

Matter of fact im so lazy i still havent even tried attacking article marketing yet.

I do love yahoo answers though.

I guess all the bad stuff i hear about article marketing keeps me away.

I try to make the most of my time and my laziness.

Social media is my forefront and i love it.

Forums and blogs are also great for me.

Tyler you make article marketing look so easy i might have to just try your technique.

      Thanks
      Craig

It's true, even though IM has a lot greater money-making potential, you won't BELIEVE the number of menial tasks involved before you try them!

Those things seem so small and insignificant, but they add up over time. I know this, but I'll go ahead and admit that I've dabbled in article marketing, Youtube, blog commenting, etc. but only lasted like two days.

Then again, I haven't actually promoted any "real" products or websites in awhile - I'm thinking of resurrecting an old blog that got some good traffic even though I think I went about it the "wrong" way... I'll see >

At the moment I'm pretty much starting from scratch again, so I'll have to learn to love those little tasks that add up over time (and then, there comes a time you get to outsource everything >)

Dan Kennedy says "bunk" on the thought "Do what you love and the money will follow" He says he loves watching horse races and sleeping in a hammock but no one is willing to pay him for those things.

To some degree we must all do things "for money" that we would not do if we had all the money we need.

If you absolutely hate something so much that you can't bring yourself to do it, try outsourcing. That could help.

Point taken , I guess you've got to weigh these things up and see which one you dislike the most.

I am not big on outsourcing especially when your first getting started. Its like someone else doing your homework for you.

There are no shortcuts to success and all the articles you do now will pay off down the road.

Its hard to learn about stuff if some else it doing it for you. As you write articles you are teaching yourself all the information.

Outsourcing has completely spoiled me. I use to write articles and do all of the grunt work, but once I figured out and got comfortable outsourcing I couldn't bring myself to do any of these things. More than a magic bullet, I'm -looking for ways to automate or systemize any part of the process of my strategies. There is no glory (or money) in spending countless hours backlink building and article writing. As an IM/entrepreneur your job is to set up an automated business system that can operate without you. Otherwise you're still just an employee.

Your so right about doing things that we hate, its human nature I suppose to want to just sit back and watch the money roll in without wroking for it. However, my thing is dont work harder, work smarter, you'll see much more money come in if you do things the "right" way.
