I recently got S3 (Yea!) and everything seems to work like clockwork. When I tried to upload/embed (whatever the term is) to my WP blog, I couldn't get it to work. I figured it was something wrong with the video player. A friend of mind was able to upload/embed from her S3 account into my WP blog with no problem.

Then, she sent me her video and I uploaded it to my S3, then tried it on my site and couldn't get it work.

So, the problem had to come from my S3 account, but I have no clue how to fix it, or even where to start! Anyone have any ideas about this one?

thanks.

    What are you using to upload it? I think there's an option to change the permissions in S3Fox.

    You'll have to change the permissions of the bucket to make sure it's readable to everyone.

    It is likely an ACL issue. However, one thing I would mention is that if it is members only content then making it viewable to everyone with the ACLs means anyone can share it and pirate it.

    There is a nice "S3FlowShield" software for Wordpress that will allow you to protect your downloads and create "authorized" sessions for each download.

    I also made my own that does the same thing and it works in my members sites the same way.

    Just some extra info to consider.

    All the best

      Yes, the ACL is all good.

      I've watched probably a dozen tutorials on "how to do it...." and followed everything step by step and still nothing.

      I keep getting an error on my viewer saying "This video/movie is not working at this time" or something like that. So that tells me something is working, but it's just not being able to be viewed. I've tried different formats and still nothing.

      Any other ideas?

    I personally use Video Vipers plugin and then just paste the s3 link into video vipers and it embeds nicely into Wordpress.

    Viper’s VideoQuicktags My WordPressPlugins Viper007Bond.com

    For an example Wordpress | The Internet Marketers Club

    In Video Vipers I use the flash part of the plugin.

    As you notice it also allows for a image to be placed on the video before it plays.

      Quentin, I tried to use Video Viper, but I couldn't figure out how to use it with s3. It had all kinds of buttons to click (youtube, viddler, google video, etc), but I didn't see anything for S3. Am I just not seeing that button or do I have to do something different?

    @Coyotex,

    Whatever you do, DO NOT set the file permissions to Read by Everyone if you want to keep your files protected & bandwidth charges low. As you said above, you watched a lot of tutorials and I know from experience almost every tutorial out there teaches you to do this, but it is WRONG. It leaves your stuff wide open for anyone to grab and/or embed on their site.

    I wrote a short eBook as to why this is bad and how to protect yourself. You can download it here (No Opt-In Required): http://fwd.cc/s3fsebook

    Then look at S3FlowShield: Secure Amazon S3 Video Streaming for WordPress - S3FlowShield It will not only make the embedding process a piece of cake, but it will also ensure your files are protected.

    OK, I got the Viper's Video plugin and I think I know what i did wrong before. It doesn't seem compatible with FCKeditor. If I deactivate that editor, I can plug in the link to the video I want. But it still WILL NOT PLAY!!!!!!

    AAAAAAUUUUUUGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!

    I have the ACL correct. Let me ask you this, when you copy/paste the URL of the video from Firefox S3, I just have to "save to clipboard", right?
    The is the format the URL for the video comes in, is it correct:
    http:// MYbucketList . s3 . amazonaws . com/ (not the actual link, just a format) Actual link is without the spaces.

    Can anyone figure this out for me?

    There's an S3 plugin that allows you to upload files from within the post editor, may be worth looking into.

    Just uploaded another video because the first one just didn't look right. I got this format this time:
    http://MybucketList.s3.amazonaws.com/mylatestvideo.AVI
    Is this format correct?

    @Coyotex,

    AVI is not generally a good format for streaming video, and many players do not support it. The best option is MP4, and FLV is good as well.

      Oh, that's good to know. You would think that somewhere along the line, I would have been told that important piece of info. Maybe Amazon told me, maybe Firefox s3 told me, maybe The WP Plugin would told me and I just over looked them.

      I guess my question is, how do I covert that over? Also, my computer doesn't play mp4, how do I get it to do that?

      I"m getting more and more discouraged with the Amazon S3 stuff! HELP!!!!!! lol

        WAIT! I did use an MP4 with my friend's video from yesterday, that didn't play either. Back to the drawing board. Anyone want to weigh in on this one....PLEASE! (I hate to beg but I'm getting desperate now)

    @Coyotex,

    I sent you a PM. Save yourself a LOT of frustration and spend the $12 on that webinar.

    As for how to convert video, there are a LOT of ways to do it. You will need some app. I use Camtasia on Windows. You can get a 30-day trial to play with it. There are many other apps out there as well. Just Google for it.

    You can play MP4 with many apps. The free Quicktime Player from Apple is a good one.

    I also like VLC ( VLC media player - Open Source Multimedia Framework and Player ) because it plays pretty much anything out there. It can also do video conversion for you.

    I may have figured something out. It does play mp4, but not avi. My Windows Media Player plays .avi just fine, why is that?

    Oh well. Now I have a bunch of .avi files I have no idea how to convert to .mp4. Any ideas?
