Where to post an item for free?

I have an offline marketing report that once sold for $20+ that I'd like to give away but I am not sure if I need to do a WSO, can post it here, or somewhere else?

You would need to do it as a WSO...

    Well Tim,

That is really a good question.

Free eBooks are to be given away in the free eBook section, or WSO, or Classified and of course they can be in your SIG.

Many times free ebooks that are offered on the main forum are deleted or moved.

    Many times they ride there.

Today a Warrior Celebrated his 500th post with a free eBook on the main forum that was warmly accepted by many, including Yours Truly.

Don't hold me to this, however, I think it has a lot to do with the quality of the book. If it appears to be subtle selling or if it is perceived to be really and truly "giving back" to the forum.

Everything I say here is my opinion and not to be taken as gospel.

I asked and was told my free backlinks packet give-away -- see my sig -- needs to be a WSO. Well d'oh. It makes the forum owners $20 and gets bumped periodically, so what do you expect them to say.

Is it really really really not allowed to give away something for an AR signup (no money changing hands) except as a WSO? I think that's a bit hard nosed, TBH.

        George -

Nope just wanted to make sure people (including mods) understood that I'm not selling anything - just wanted to do something for interested people. No offense taken or given (I hope).

George just meant if you want the thread "gone" - we can take care of that for you (get it?).

Forgive me. I am hopped up on cold meds and my thinking is fuzzy at best.

The only good thing about cold meds is they usually put me to sleep.

              Hope you feel better.

It is really, really not allowed. If it were, there'd be tons of posts doing that in the main forum and other sections, doing nothing but using the forum as a free list-building system, and drowning the useful posts under a flood of garbage.

Hard-nosed? Matter of opinion. Necessary? Yeah.

Exactly. This is a forum full of marketers - without any rules the entire forum would just be people marketing to each other without any useful discussion.

Paul, OK so next question -- if it's really not allowed, then why is it enforced unevenly?

Just today there was a member who was doing exactly what you describe, with the best of intentions of course -- wanting to give back to the forum on the occassion of his reaching 500 posts. But he/she was collecting sign ups to their AR.

I saw the offer in question, and I did not see any sign-up requirement. You go to the page and hit the download link.

If there's one out there that does require a sign-up, point me to it and it will be addressed. Remember, uneven enforcement, as you call it, is largely the result of the fact that moderators don't have the capability to review every post in every thread.

      George -

This isn't an attempt to sell. In fact I removed the sales letter at the end of the ebook. I am just trying to give people who are interested in offline marketing a report that got a lot of praise on the WSO forum for free.

I'll start a free WSO if needed, post it to the war room and put it where it needs to go.

Just don't want to step on toes.

Hey Gunslinger, I don't think it was an attempt to sell. Hope it didn't sound Like I did.

    Tim,

You don't have to submit a ticket to get it closed. Just ask us "Mods to close it" and we will zap it for you.

    AR= Auto Responder right?

Also I tried to give away my "How to Attract the Woman of Your Dreams" Audio just a few days ago and it got deleted too. I didnt ask for emails or try to build my list with it, but it got deleted too. So I guess you gotta pay the 20 bones to give something away ;-)
