Hi everyone


As some of you may know I am currently working on promoting my fathers invoicing software. But I'm afraid being the newbie that I am at IM we have come to the conclusion that we need your help...


First a little background story.
My father has been a computer programmer since before the personal computer existed. The past 5 years he has been selling his own invoicing software to customers in Denmark where we live. Around 500 copies have sold at around $150 a piece.


Last year he did a complete renewal of the software this time he made an English version as well planning on selling it worldwide. For the international edition we have chosen to lower the price significantly to $79 though. Keeping us well below the competition, though we have an equally good product.


We did a quick website and sent out a PAD file to several hundred download sites and this is more or less where we stand today.


As you can probably guess it have not sold very well. Only 13 copies the last year or so giving us a conversion rate well below 1%.


Now we know the software is great, here in Denmark we sell copies at $150 almost every day now. And have tons and tons of great acknowledgments that could be used for testimonials. We are also aware that our marketing efforts haven't been at all very good, and that wee now need help to get going.


What we propose is to offer a number of copies to people interested in helping us out making our website better, making the software even better than it is now, etc. These copies are yours to do with what you wish, you can give them away as a promotional item, sell them for 100% profit or offer them to your list etc. The only thing we require is that if you sell it you keep the maximum price at $79.


I have identified the following tasks we need help for and how many copies of the software we are willing to give for it.


Software test and review
2 copies, value = $158 5 people needed
Website design (wordpress)
20 copies, value = $1580 1 person needed
Website copy
20 copies, value = $1580 1 person needed
SEO and marketing of final website
10 copies, value = $790 1 person needed


if the 30 days fully functional demo version is insufficient I can arrange for a copy you can use personally also.


When all this is done we plan on offering a great 40% affiliate deals on the software. (That's $32 in your pocket for ever single copy sold through your site) But more on this later on

    I would simply offer them a deal they can't refuse (assuming they have a decent size customer / prospect base to market to).

    If need be, offer them more than 40% - e.g. 60-70%. It's better making 30% of significant sales than 60% of minimal sales - if you see what I mean!

    Thank you for your post.

    I know the best solution would be to offer up a JV on this, and preferable for a 50/50 split (Remember one part is split evenly between myself and my father) But unfourtunately I have not been able to convince him this is a good idea.

    I think I will give it another try though, since it would be the absolute best way to market this software...

      I briefly visited your website and saw your screen shots.
      1- Your software as described on your website does not appear to be unique enough to catch anyone's attention.
      2- It appears to be typical stand alone invoicing module.
      3- Maybe you could describe its advantages over similar programs and how it could be integrated into the sales journal and general ledger modules of popular accounting programs.
      4- Your sample invoice looks like a standard Quick Books invoice.
      5- If I were an account or business owner you haven't provided enough compelling features for me want to download the software for a free trial.
      6- As you know accounting is really tedious, no one wants to invest time in the software only to find out it falls short of expectations.
      7- What are the capabilities as far as the number of customers, inventory items, etc? Features like that should be pointed out.

      Bottom line is you haven't pointed out enough reasons why I would want your particular software aside from it being inexpensive and free to try.

      Again with accounting, it's time invested in new software that's the obstacle. Why would I want to invest the time in your software when there are established fully proven functional accounting programs already in existence?

      Sell me on why yours is better.

      I believe if you can do that, you will find as many JV partners as you want.

    Hi Dave.

    Thank you for your reply.

    I actually had another discussion with my dad and he is warming up to the idea (I just have to be persistent with him)

    Where would one go about finding a company that would be interested in selling our software? Are you referring to the large software resellers or are we still at the Internet marketers we find on this site?

    And wouldn't we still have to update our website atc. even though we do a deal with a few large companies?
