Article Marketing Questions For A Newbie PLS!!

Hey! I'm Bre, I'm 20 - and I want to make Internet Marketing my career....however I have to start small with article marketing because of my funds. So I've been workin on it now for about a month, and I'm at the step now where I have to choose a product. I've chosen my niche which is Health and Beauty, now I'm trying to choose my product...or my "mini-niche' so to say. So I went through every affiliate based website online and went through all the products each one has to offer under the health and beauty field. I have a huge list of potential products to choose, but I've compiled a list of questions I need answered before I narrow this list down and choose an official first product. If there is anyone who can help me get more information on these questions or who can answer them for me then please do!! I will love you forever for helping me out! Here they are:
  1. There were a few affiliate directories that had some really decent looking products/templates to promote, however most of their commission were below 50% or even under 20%. When choosing my first product to promote (Which of course, I'd like to see really good results) should I choose a product with a higher commission, or choose one that looks like it would convert realllly well - but doesn't offer commission over 50%?
  2. In regards to question #1 - what is a good commission range to keep in mind when choosing my first product. I want it to have a good chance at conversions, but I also want to make a decent profit for each sale I refer.
  3. There are three affiliate sites that I didn't get to look at the products they have to promote yet. One is Linkshare, and that is because they haven't sent me an email for confirmation altho I've tried resending it now about 10 times. Does anyone know is this affiliate site is worth it to look into - should I keep trying to send this email? I have a huge list of products frmo about 15 other sites...so should I try to get products from Linkshare or move on.
  4. Another site I haven't looked into is Avantlink. Does anyone know if this site is worth looking into for potential products as well? There is a terribly ridiculous confirmation process to get into their site, and I don't think I want to do deal with it haha. Unless....it is worth it, and their site has AMAZING products to choose from. But if there just the same as most of the other product sites that I've already got products out of then I don't want to worry about it.
  5. The same goes for ShareASale. Is this affiliate site worth it when it comes to promoting their products...or should the list of products I have at the moment be sufficient?
  6. Does anyone recommend looking more into affiliatizing with MarketHealth.com or Amway Global??
  7. My last question is - Should I just focus on promoting a single product such as a single product from Clickbank with a decent commission, or is it a good idea to be an affiliate for a site that has a ALOT of different products to promote such as Amazon, and then just promote several little products under that one site??
Thank you SO SO much to anyone who can answer ANY of these questions for me. It will give me great insight so I know how and where to take my next step. If their is any additional tips or advice you'd like to give me regarding where I'm at in the IMing career then I welcome it! I'm always open to advice from anyone who is already successful at doing this. Thanks again!

    Hi Bre

Welcome to the forum! You will find TONS of good information here

I haven't really looked in to all of the affiliate networks you are asking about, but the commission you get really depends on the price of the product you are selling. For example, if you are promoting a health and beauty product that sells for $50 and you get 20% ($10), that's okay but you really want to make more. Sell a $100 product at 20%, $20 is more like it. However, if you can find products that you believe are quality product that pay 30% or more, I would go for that.

As far as MarketHealth goes, I can tell you they are GREAT. I sell a couple of products they offer, the commissions are good, and they pay on time every time. I have never had a problem with them.

Your last question about promoting one product from Clickbank or several: I wouldn't offer too many products - it makes it a tougher decision for the buyer. You might either offer one or two, or do a product review on your site of say 3 or 4 products giving your opinion. Of course, you can't make every one of them sound like the best; that would look a little strange. One should be slightly better than all of the others.

This is about all I can tell you, hope it helps a bit! Good luck

Thanks so much Tess47!! Those are really good tips to keep in mind, and it opened up a lot of great avenues of thinking for me haha. I have alot of thinking and planning to do before I choose my first product. Then again, I want to choose one this very second so that I can get to work and make some money off it, but I don't want to rush myself because I don't want to make any more mistakes than necassary. If at all possible, I'd like to do this correctly the first time, even if I don't make that much off it, I want to make something, anything so that I know its possible for me. So that I can feel like I finally know what I'm doing and then build off of that. Anyone with even more answers to my post above would be appreciated! As well as any more valuable tips that I should keep in mind.

      Thanks again!

Hi and welcome to the WF, Bre It sounds like you've put a lot of thought into things, and are working towards a detailed plan. In my opinion, this means you are already ahead of 95% of newbies, if not more

I don't know much about the sites you mentioned, I mainly promote Clickbank and CPA products myself(from 3 networks) but again I think it's great you're putting so much thought into things. My advice is to concentrate on how well you think a product will convert, as opposed to how much commission you will get. Maybe have a couple of lower priced ones, and a couple of higher priced ones to test the water. When you're starting out in any niche, testing is a big part of things.

I wish you the very best of luck, judging by your first post you are going to go far and I look forward to your contributions here

Thanks Liam!! That put a huge smile on my face with ur comments. Helped me to feel like I'm on the right track. Its hard maintining that feeling beings as I'm doing this on my own, no one I talk to really believes its possible, and all of my other friends are goin off to school and gettin jobs and living their life...I feel left behind haha. UNLESS...I make money with this, and then I'm set for life. I didn't think to test out a higher against a lower priced product, thats really not a bad idea!!

But again, thanks for the words of advice and your warm welcome to WF . I'm real excited to get started and to have this forum as a source of advice and inspiration!!

Hi Bre, fellow article marketer here.

I'll attempt to answer your q's as best as poss:

Good question that will probably get you a number of answers depending on who you ask. I always look for $20 + per sale as I only promote off Clickbank at the moment and that seems pretty standard. 50% commission is fairly decent - can't really complain with that. To be honest, just pick something that looks like it will sell and convert well with a commission that you're happy with and don't spend too long procrastinating.

You'll find with article marketing that your first product will be a steep learning curve. Thereafter you'll figure out what you're doing, what works and what doesn't and start to make more and more effective and efficient campaigns.

    1. In regards to question #1 - what is a good commission range to keep in mind when choosing my first product. I want it to have a good chance at conversions, but I also want to make a decent profit for each sale I refer.
As mentioned, I always pick $20+ but it also depends on the niche. Some niches don't pay aswell as others. Shouldn't get too hung up on it, the strategies are more important than the figures at this stage.

Unless....it is worth it, and their site has AMAZING products to choose from. But if there just the same as most of the other product sites that I've already got products out of then I don't want to worry about it.
    2. The same goes for ShareASale. Is this affiliate site worth it when it comes to promoting their products...or should the list of products I have at the moment be sufficient?
    3. Does anyone recommend looking more into affiliatizing with MarketHealth.com or Amway Global??
Sorry, I've never used any of them - solely clickbank for me at the moment.
    1. My last question is - Should I just focus on promoting a single product such as a single product from Clickbank with a decent commission, or is it a good idea to be an affiliate for a site that has a ALOT of different products to promote such as Amazon, and then just promote several little products under that one site??
Personally I'd stick with clickbank, take a decent commission and keep it simple.

Having said that there are physical product niches that would work great with article marketing. Unfortunately I'm not at the stage where I can experiment with them yet, but it's certainly one for the future.

Looking back at my answers, I realise I've not actually been that helpful! But hopefully someone else with more experience with affiliate programs will jump in and give their 2 cents worth.

    Cheers,
    Paul

Thanks paj_mccarthy Looking over your answers I would say that you actually have helped me haha. I like hearing how others are going about article marketing so any answers to my questions provide me with a ton of insight as to which general path I should take. Any and all advice is welcome so thank you so much for providing yours!

In fact, now that I got most of the answers to my questions besides a couple...I'm super excited to get to work on choosing my first product!! Then...setting up my plan of action, implementing that, then hopefully make some coin in the end.

I can guarantee I'll be back to this forum with more questions haha, I hope I don't become too much of a bother.

      Thanks again everyone!

You have put a lot of thought into this but I would just caution you about overthinking the product. Just about any product will sell if you do it right. Your work at the beginning is going to involve learning a lot of things like SEO, etc. So basically, your first campaign or two are kind of practice and on-the-job education.

Just pick something that you think a lot of people might need/want and go for it. Figure out if you can write the way is needed to lead to the click or a sale before you worry too much about the product.

If people need/want it and you can make them want it even more with your writing, you'll be able to sell just about anything you want. Don't spend more time thinking about the perfect product when you could be out there getting your practice in and making sales right now.

article marketing is a great way of getting tons of free traffic.
although you're going to need to go for volume.
Through my research I've found you should be looking to get about 5 articles a day.

Clickbank is the best so far, I also like commission junction.
for a beginner it's best to find a couple products in the same niches and focus
    your efforts on that.
Once you get more comfortable you can move on to multiple niches.

Article Marketing is by far the easiest and fastest way to create an online income rather quickly. There are some things that you must learn before you try to be successful with it though. As with anything TRAINING by those that do it right is the most important item to consider. Trial and error results in poor results and disappointment that leads to discouragement. What if you already had the tools and understanding? I have a philosophy that will make anyone wealthy and successful. I know this because I do it myself and it works.
1.Find what it is that you want to do and make the decision to not turn back
2.Find someone that is successful at doing what you want to do (mentor)
3.DO WHAT THEY DO>>NOTHING MORE...NOTHING LESS (until you gain experience)
    Good Luck!

      I think I missed something.

You're trying to pick your product first?

If you reverse course and choose your keywords, and your micro-niche first, the product selection will become easy. It will be the natural choice of your keywords.

As you're researching areas of the market which are ripe for article marketing, you'll probably be finding obvious choices of products to match your phrases. Then it is just choosing the affiliate network who has those products.

      Hope that made sense.

My advice to you, Bre, which is strange because those are my initials, lol, is to pick more than one product. When I first started, 5 years ago, with article marketing I tried only one product and it took me forever to make any money because that product was a loser and I had to move on to other products.

After that I decided that instead of doing all kinds of research and trying to pick the perfect product I would just pick 10 products that I know are popular, start writing, and see what happens. This worked out much better for me and 4 of those products are still making me money now. Every once in a while the other 6 will pop in with a sale or two here and there, but you have to understand that some of these products are just going to suck and others are going to be winners.

The biggest mistake new article marketers make is they don't get to writing. You have spent a month doing research, which is fine, but I would have told you to spend about a day doing research and just start writing. The sooner you get some articles out there the sooner you will see some cash coming in so my advice to you now is to pick a handful of products in your niche and write for them each and every chance you get. I like to get at least 15 articles out for a product before I decide whether or not it is worth a darn.

Welcome to the forum Bre ...

When you are talking about affiliate marketing the norm for beauty would be 10% - 20% commissions (I am not talking about clickbank). Selling products like shampoo, makeup, and other beauty products have a lower commission vs ebook and etc. The reason being is due to the price of course but this also allows you to build a entire blog around beauty and not just a review site.

You could pick around 6 - 10 beauty products that are all related in some form and build an entire blog around those products. Keep all your post related and content about beauty and when making post include links for this product and that product. Doing this will make your commissions higher due to the fact that you are pushing several related products...

Do not make the mistake of just sticking up a blog with a bunch of affiliate banners on it.. This will do you very little good and mostly will be ignored. Provide useful and helpful content and in that content link to your affiliate products (open links in a new window)..

ShareASale.com is one of the best affiliate networks out there... Even though I no longer push affiliate stuff, I have been with them for over 6 years and have been paid many times over.

Yes this can be a good method, however, there have been a number of people that have bought "views" to their articles, this is black hat, to get them on the "most viewed" list so some of these articles that you will find with this research method are not as good as they look. Plus with EZA cracking down a abit, once again, you really have to make sure you are not just rewriting someone else's article.

I would try to stick with 350+ words on EZA and I would make sure it was all my own and fresh content.
