... or rather, hopefully a GOOD definition of BAD.

We often see people criticizing other marketers using such words as immoral, unethical, BlueFart, illegal and so on. My problem with these words is that they are often used interchangeably.

After a bit of thought (okay, I admit it - a very little bit of thought) I came up with the following definitions. Feel free to add, subtract, correct or augment...

Immoral: it would upset your mother or your priest and they might not like the way you do business.

Unethical: it would upset your customers and they might stop doing business with you.

Black hat: it would upset a company like Google and they might try to stop you doing business with them.

Illegal: it would upset the government and they would try to stop you doing business with everybody.

    totally agree but in relation to BlueFart and whitehat, the line is very very blurry and what can be considered white hat one day can be considered black hat the next. It really depends on the individual.
