    Hi Arun,

Working from home can be more relaxing than having to travel to work.

I wear casual clothing which puts me in a relaxed mood and aids my creativity.
I change to a suit or more smarter clothing when attending meetings or attending networking events.

I guess it comes down to the individual's preference.

I put on a decent shirt for a video. Otherwise, it's T-shirt and shorts.

When I used to work from home in the past I used to sit in a short and t-shirt. However I figured out later on that it's a bad habit. I think if you don't dress well even if you're at home, you will become very lazy.

When I'm dressed, I feel I'm full of energy and ready to get out or do anything. Back in the days when I used to stay in a short and t-shirt in front of my computer, I had a very hard time to get out when my friends call me.

I advice everyone who doesn't dress regularly at home while working to do it, and see how it can affect his everyday life.

I absolutely get up, get showered, dressed and put on make up to go to work in my bedroom every day. I tried working in my pj's, and felt that it was just a bit too comfortable. Way to easy to feel like going to stretch out on the bed, and then fall into a nap. LOL.

But also, it helps that if I get a call to go out, I'm already ready to go. So being dressed is a time saver too.

I've seen something like this before. Everyone is different it really comes down to the individual feeling you get from dress up or dressing casual.

For me I feel much more focused dressing up. I feel prepped a bit business like. (papared for duty)

    Thats just me

As mentioned previously, this is one of those things that comes down to individual differences.

I don't dress up -- at all. Sweat shirts, jeans, shorts, sweat pants, etc. Ultra comfy clothes.

However, years ago I was helping folks make the jump from working outside the home to working at home. Some people NEEDED to go through the "morning routine." So they got up, ate breakfast, showered and got dressed in business or casual business attire. Then and only then did they feel motivated to work.

They were dressing the part, yes. But just going through the "get ready for work" routine put them in the right mindset. It made them approach their business with a more serious attitude.

So, bottom line: If anyone reading this thread is having problems focusing, try starting your morning by going through the "get ready" routine.

    cheers,
    Becky

I agree as far as the routine - that helped me a lot. But I end my routine by donning a sweatshirt (t-shirt in warmer months) and jeans.

At the moment I'm travelling the country signing up offline businesses to my membership site - I waltz in with hot pink hair and piercings in my nose, labrette and tongue - no one really notices what I wear - so jeans and a smart casual top - oh and hot pink boots that match my hair!

I do get dressed to "go to work", otherwise my leather chair gets too clammy. Most of the year, that means shorts and t-shirt. Got a cold spell right now, so I trade the shorts for full length sweats.

When I meet someone outside, it's a nice Hawaiian print polo and either nice shorts or long pants. I make no secret that I think neckties are an invention of Satan, sent to torment men.

Of course, this is southwest Florida, so the climate has some bearing on what people wear for business...

I'm sitting in the Philippines, in a pair of shorts and a T-shirt. It's my favorite apparel to work in.

I was never able to do that for the 30 years I worked for other people.

I find working in clothes I enjoy to be inspiring. Can't imagine going back to wearing slacks, a dress shirt, and black shoes again.

I think it really depends on:

    - what line/field of work you're in,
    - if you are your own boss, you decide the dress code
    - if you are an employee, the dress code for your workplace
    - what kind of impression you want to portray, depending on your line of work.

      Nope.

I wear more or less the same thing all the time - Henley shirt, black pants. I do wear shoes when out of the house.

I very intentionally don't dress up for things like job interviews or meeting with clients - if my clothes torpedo something, they're not anyone I'd want to work with anyway.

You must dress for success even when alone. If you don't dress nicely there is no way you can make money. It just won't happen.

I knew a guy that was making $100,000 a month because he wore a suit at home. As soon as he stopped wearing the suit his income went down to nothing.

I wear whatever I want, and it's usually casual. I don't have to meet any offline clients, so I'm sure you can understand the rationale. I think there may be some truth to Scott (Ame)'s comment though. Sometimes how you feel (through dressing, for instance) makes all the difference in *what* you do. I read somewhere that the majority of successful gamblers dress the part, i.e. suit or tuxedo, whereas the losers are sloppy and wear very casual clothes...lol.

I only dress up when I meet up with clients. I used to work in my PJs a lot, but I discovered that I actually worked better when I took them off and put on normal clothes. Besides, I take a lot of breaks during the day and need to be ready to head out of the house to run errands, play tennis, or shoot some hoops.

I dress for comfort. Someone commented that not dressing well was a lazy habit. If you believe that's true, then it is true...for you, but not for someone else with a different perspective. It's all about how you work best. For me, baggy shorts and a t-shirt in warm weather or baggy sweat pants and a t-shirt in the winter is comfortable, and I can get more work done when I'm totally comfortable than when I'm not.

I do find getting up, taking a shower, and getting dressed as if I'm going out somewhere for a job puts me into a different mindset than if I just wake up and casually go work in my PJs.

This is the same reason they say having your home office in your bedroom is a bad idea (you may become lazy easily or feel sleepy). Keeping your office separate from the rest of your home (and especially bedroom) is a good idea if possible. Try this, along with getting dressed for work and see if your productivity goes up. If you're like me, it will.

It depends on the kind of business you are in, and also the environment in which you work. In other words, we dress up for others.

While discipline is good, doing the unnecessary will impinge on the main mission.

Great question - just had a similar discussion with a fellow marketer at lunch today (we both dressed for that - casual). I do generally get dressed even at home, although it's just pants and a shirt. When I'm listening to a teleseminar or webinar I'm okay in whatever, but when I'm hosting I need to feel good about my appearance (yes, I know no one can see me). I've also found that when I get up and get dressed I'm more likely to shoot face video - so for the bottomline results, it's profitable to dress like you want your customers to see you.

Most of the time I work in PJ pants and a T-shirt. If I have a meeting online that I am hosting or going to, I like to dress up. It helps me feel like my job is bigger and more important. This is just me, because I use to be in the banking industry so I liked and miss the suit.

There is a bit of a boost in the regular workplace too. I remember that Lehman Brothers many years ago abandoned their smart-casual policy (I forget if it was every day or just Fridays) because they said it had affected productivity.
