Linkvana to replace Ezines?

Good question ... I was wondering the same thing.

I'm not familiar with Linkvana, but if you create your link with the keyword at the end, and you don't have an actual page on your web site that contains such a link, then people who click on that anchored text would get a page not found. ie: you can't use domain.com/paintball if you don't have such a page on your site.

The problem with this train of thought is that you're confusing link popularity with qualtiy.

The truth is, ever since link pop became a ranking criteria, it favored the corporate type sites and discriminated against the small, "mom/pop" independant sites.

Now, instead of favoring the corperate type sites, it favors those that engage in link building campaigns. I don't see much difference.

Just because link pop was "honest" before, doesn't mean it was always accurate when picking qualtiy.

Just like the home-coming king and queen were the most popular kids, that didn't mean they were the best kids.

IMO, link pop has always been an over-rated way to rank pages. I've watched SERPs for 12 years in some niches, and while today's results are more relevant, they lack the diversity that SERPs of the past gave us.

Let me give you an example...12 years ago, a search for "las vegas" would include a site that listed every movie that Las Vegas was a part of...It was a very long and interesting list. Another site listed was one that had a collection of old time Las Vegas post cards.

Both of these sites were created by non-marketers that created the sites just for fun. Once link pop became a factor, sites like these could no longer keep up with the corporate sites like the casinos' home pages and the local news media sites.

Sure, the top 20 "las vegas" sites are now all highly relative, what's missing from the top sites are these smaller, unique sites, each with it's own perspective.

Since this "flavor" has pretty much been eliminated due to link pop, I don't jave a problem with web masters manipulating the SERPs. Plus, who is to say that some of these sites are not actually better? Just because some sites build links doesn't mean that their sites are crap...It's entirely possible that their sites are actually better, at least in some cases.

With Linkvana you get better rankings (and that depends on a hundred different factors) but with Ezine you get Search Engine credit and traffic. A few of my sites ONLY get traffic from Ezine. It's simply one of the best (and fastest) ways to get traffic.
