Advice Please: list building - which list is better?

Hello Marketers and Marketdetts!

I am looking for a bit of advice. I like to give away free products as a list building strategy. As long as the product is pretty good I think it also helps build a reputation right of the bat for having quality products, and as long as you keep up that level off information and products you will have a loyal base of subscribers. I also think support is a huge importance. If someone has problems with download - help them out, if they want more information -give it to them, etc. Again breeding loyalty. Treat your subscribers as if they were family. but of course there's no one to think you have quality products and no one to treat like family if you don't get people to subscribe, right. Right.

Anyway. My question to you is this. I have two different styles of Optin pages. First one is more sales page like - Version 1 . The Other is more squeeze page like - Version 2. I will be throwing a good deal of money at them though PPC - yes I can a/b test, but before draining my bank account testing on Google, yahoo and Bing , I wanted to get some of your expert opinions on some of the following questions:

  • which will convert more subscribers?
  • What do you think of the auto responder sequence? (There's only 2 steps)
  • Are there too many steps before getting to the download page.
  • Do you like the quality of the free product?
  • Which page design is better?
  • What else might make you subscribe?
  • What would keep you from subscribing?
If all you amazing people can help me out and give your critiques, I would really appreciate it! I will gladly return the favor if anyone wants my opinion on their site, or anything else for that matter. Just PM me the link to whatever you want an opinion on and parts you would like advice or opinions on and will gladly do the same for you.

Thanks! And may money come to you in truck-loads and rain of success flood your fields!

Justin

Version 1 is definitely more attention-getting and centers the eye with the header, main statement, etc.
I think the freebie is good. Good work and good luck!

    Hi Justin,

Version 1 is definitely better but I would suggest you to improve on the opt-in box as it is too plain to me.

The squeeze is simple with attractive header and eye-catchy headlines...all looks good.

Put in some good content for autoresponder sequence sent every other day. Pick some quality affiliate product/your own and promote it in autoresponder series. Combine with high quality autoresponder content + great affiliate product, I believe you are going to make profit out of it.

Thanks, Jinmin! I changed the optin box. Do you think that's better?

    1. At first look #1 looks better although #2 has the huge advantage of showing the optin form above the fold.

    2. Like so many others I tend to just skim a squeeze page... so for a moment I wasn't sure what I am getting: your $15,000/mo method or some themes that will do the same for me

    3. By the time I figure out what the offer is... I discovered all the links at the bottom - and I clicked away in a second. I went to your sales page, then I looked at the affiliates page, I even clicked on your blog link. Very bad strategy! If you give them links (more options) they will all click on them: humans are curious animals.

    4. What is your goal with this page? - To make them sign up. Then remove all the distracting links. After signing up, you can show them all your links.
Actually, you could make the sales page an OTO, offering a discounted price if they buy now, otherwise later it will be $XXX

P.S. For the affiliate page I would use an affiliate tools page creator to have those graphics (and eventually other tools) already with the affiliate's ID.

Sorry, I messed up your name. I only glanced up at it...

Don't worry about the name - the correct spelling would be István but that's too much for a language that doesn't have diacritics

I can see you removed the links... (although the sales page link is still there). I know, I know it's your site and it's your decision what to have on it.

As for your initial questions: "autoresponder sequence" usually refers NOT to the 2 steps of the double opt-in but to the email message series that you will be sending out to your subscribers.

Yeah, I removed the links, but left the sales page link because I'm about to upload a page with a deep discount. I think you'll like it. Also, I guess it might have sounded like I was refering to the 2 optin steps, but really what I was saying is that at the moment while i'm asking for opinions, there are only 2 messages. I didn't want to load my full autoresopnder series in there so anyone which tested the all the way to the download page wouldn't get hit by a ton of emails.

Still hoping someone will go all the way though and let me know what they think of the download page and actual downloads.

Oh, I the sales page is uploaded. Check it out.
