article title vs squeeze page headline

Hi, I have been submitting articles which link to my squeeze page to ezinearticles. I have a question about article title vs squeeze page headline.

Since both of them are used to capture attention, why are article title and squeeze page headline so different? For e.g. taken from some sales page thread in this forum

"You're About To Learn The Exact Methods I Used To Go From Deeply In Debt And Working At A Job Barely Scraping By To Making Over $580,000 Net In Just One Year Selling Public Domain Works!"

vs taken from Most Viewed EzineArticles in the Internet-and-Businesses-Online:Internet-Marketing Category( I just list down a few)

  1. The Best Ways to Make Money Online For Beginners
  2. Don't Say No to Christmas This Year, Make Money Online and Work From Home
  3. Ways to Make Money on the Internet - Highly Effective Yet Overlooked Strategy For Success Online

Does anyone know why article title and squeeze page headline are so different in general?

In the case of the EzineArticle.com titles, EA's guidelines state:

MUST NOT be a press release, advertisement, sales letter, promotional copy, or blatant and excessive self-promotion or hype.

But in general, people don't tend to title their articles with hyped-up language because it does LOOK like sales copy. And some people who see sales copy on top of an article will think it IS an ad -- so they won't read it.

On the other hand, people going to a sales page know they're going to a sales page. So many sales letter headlines tend to be quite promotional because it's no secret that there's something for sale or trade on the page.

Of course there is a lot of crossover. Some people write articles that read like sales copy. And advertorials are sales letters that look more like articles.

(Incidentally, one of the best sales letters I ever read looked like an article. I was pulled in hook, line and sinker. )

    Cheers,

    Hi kkenson,

In addition to what Becky and Alexa mention it's important to allow your reader to warm to you first, before trying to sell them anything. I've done a lot of research on this and I've found that the most successful article headlines are typically those that:

    a) Promise information - "3 ways to...", "Reasons why..." etc.
    b) Trigger curiosity - "Long lost secrets...", "5 things that you thought you knew..."

This is a solid way of appealing to peoples emotions. People buy mostly on emotion, and not logic. Use this search formula (using your own keywords in place of 'Christmas') to find the best articles in your niche last month and take note of the headlines:

    site:ezinearticles.com "This article has been viewed" + "1000..10000 time(s)." + "Article Submitted On: December *, 2009" & intitle:"christmas"
Use your articles to provide value and to prove why you should be listened to... Then sell them the solution with your squeeze/sales page. If you fall short on the first hurdle, you'll never finish the race.

One other difference. You are trying to accomplish two completely different tasks.

On an EzineArticle, you need to guide them into the article, then through the article, so they read the resource box, and are enticed to see further information. Most people don't hurry up and jump down to a resource box.

On your squeeze page, I'll bet you could care less if they read your entire pitch. You want one thing. SIGN UP NOW! WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?

It's a completely different tone needed. One you are providing information, the other one you are almost demanding action.
