Hiring a "face" for your product

Has anyone ever hired someone else to be the "face" of your product: provide their picture for the sales page, and possibly even promote it through video marketing efforts.

Is it unethical (or illegal) to do this when you are the product creator, and you hire them to say they are the product creator?

What about hiring some sort of spokesman/spokeswoman?

The reason I'm asking is because if I ever choose to create an info product outside of the make money online niche, I think I'd want to do this. Simply, because I'm not a huge fan of putting my face where everyone can see it. I enjoy the private life, and am not in any rush to do so otherwise.

Also, I know this is wrong, but I think I'd hire someone attractive (I really don't want to debate what I consider attractive or what you consider attractive so don't bring it up =X). For some reason, I tend to get gravitate towards products, at least initially, that are being sold by someone attractive. Of course, I choose based on the actual product at the end, but I know to some extent, the person selling it (or the way they look or act) affects me.

"you hire them to say they are the product creator" ... if you partner with this guy and give him share.. then nothing wrong to say that.. are you ready to do that? otherwise i would think it is dishonest.. not sure if it is illegal though, however if you just hire a spokes person.. then it is perfectly ok to hire someone attractive.. like T-Mobile hires Catherine Zeta-Jones ..

You can hire someone to do podcasts or video for you, kind of like a spokes person.

However, dishonesty will only hurt you in the end! People hate fake!

I'm sure you wouldn't have trouble finding someone who would go down that avenue with you, however, as some people will do almost anything for money!

There is nothing wrong with hiring a spokesperson and some people clearly need it...I have seen some truly terrible videos promoting products before.

Just put a small caption underneath saying "the speaker is a spokesperson" or whatever and you will be fine.

When people tell me I have a face for radio, then I should start a TV show. But if you feel or want to hire someone to be the face of you product, then there is nothing wrong with that. Its just like using a pen name when someone is writing. Or it is just like when a major company uses the fame of a celebrity to endorse there product.

I don't think I would want to be dishonest and say another person is the product creator if they are not, even if I give them a share of the profit. I don't think it would be worth the risk.

However, the spokesperson route might be a possible route to go in the future.

    Thanks for the input!

I agree to some extent, but with a pen name, you are the one still providing the content.

People use pen names all the time, but their own image not usually.
You could work with someone famous and then put both names on the project.
Mike Filsaime does this a lot for people with products.

There are many large companies who I have no idea what the face of the creator looks like.

You can just skip the face thing all together.

Use a logo or something and just brand it to death.

There's nothing wrong with using a spokesperson, but why muck things up with lies? People aren't going to judge your product based on whether a spokesperson says he/she is the product creator or not. Few will even wonder or care who the product creator is, they want to know what it can do for them.

Just when you think you've got it all figured out, someone changes the rules.

There's this girl, whose picture is next to a testimonial with like every other Clickbank product... I was gonna suggest you use her since everybody is already freely using her.. but for the life of me I can't seem to find her now!

Well, let's say you would want the face of "Wayne Gretzky" on your webpage, you should always approach the celebrity and get their permission. Of course, there will likely be a price to have someone famous to endorse your product.
