Best way to use Upsells?

Hi, there,

1shoppingcart just added an upsell module but I don't have any IM products that tell how best to price an upsell for best profit.

I mean, what I don't want to do is what I've seen some IM'rs do (even though I'm not in the IM niche) is that, they sell me a $27 product, then they sell me a "discounted" package of $1997 stuff for $97. The huge gap there just kills all credibility.

So what have some of you read is a general rule percentage increase to get the most sales?

Thanks a lot, and no offense to those doing those "huge gap" upsells - but you might want to ease into it a little bit...

Have a good day, everyone,

- Paul

You need to test. Going up...and going down. See what works for you.

Try going from $47 to $97. Or $97 to $197. Also try going from $97 to $47 for a "workbook". You're right about large jumps...but if you have a good relationship, you can easily go from $97 to $997 for one on one coaching.

    Thanks a bunch, BlueSquares.

    That makes sense.

One thing I'm wondering is how much of a turn-off a general customer might feel at an upsell.

I guess I'll just have to rely on feedback for that.

    Thanks, again,

When I purchased BeachBody's "Power 90" last year, I got hit with something like 8 (I'm not kidding) upsells. All were related and added value to the original product. They offered extra rubber bands, vitamins, membership access...tons of crap. It didn't bother me at all..and I wasn't expecting it, either. As long as your offering value...you'll make plenty of profit.

Why discount at all? Discounting suggests that your product was not worth the original price in the first place. Brand promotion works by actively selling the benefits of the product to a consume and convincing them of the products value. Do what I do i never discount and profits remain good.
