Can I make any money with a 50% commission on a $35 product?

Hi, there,

I'm not ready with my own products yet, but a buddy of mine is offering me 50% commission as an affiliate on six $35 products.

I've been studying IM pretty heavily for three years and feel competent enough to market - articles, video, squeeze pages to list-building, etc. But frankly, I'm a little worried at putting in the amount of time I need to to do it right and fail because I'm only netting $17.50 on each sale.

I'm qute aware that once the marketing machine is going, the amount of time I need will lessen and I can then focus on my own products that cover a greater price range.

I'm just not sure if it's worth doing to start at least getting SOME income (my own products are probably three months away) or if decent monthly income only comes from higher net per sale.

Could anyone be kind enough to suggest anything, either way?

Thanks a lot, everyone, and have a wonderful (warm?) day,

- Paul

    hi Paul,

Rather than focusing on these six products, focus on your niche (on the people). And that means focusing on your sales funnel and lead-generating system. As long as you can generate targeted leads -- hungry consumers -- you can make money (even if it's not with the six products you mentioned).

Sounds like you're already doing some of that since you mentioned squeeze pages. Continue doing that sort of thing. Build the list. Build relationships with that list. Sell to that list.

Then yes, you can sell those six products to that list. But even if the products bomb, not a single bit of your effort is wasted, except the ten minutes you take to write an email. That's because you can sell all sorts of other stuff to the list besides those products.

So, again -- start with the niche, the people. Find out what they want (do they even WANT these products?). Build a list of these eager beavers. Then sell them the solutions they're seeking. If those solutions include your friend's six products, great -- you'll make money. If not, give them whatever else it is that they want (hint: look at what they're already buying).

    Hope that helps a bit.

    Cheers,
    Becky

In his book Rich Dad Poor Dad Robert Kiyosaki mentions creating passive income through various channels; one of these channels is a business with a friend who does most of the work. Allow me to clarify. The amount of time or money you spend initially needs to create a passive income for you later, so that you can move on to other things that also create more income that is passive this could include yours.

One business model may actually fund another business and so forth. The more business you have out there making money for you the better, so at some point all you do is monitor the business' growth and reallocate the funds into more lucrative projects, because you do not want to become a slave to a business and especially one you do not enjoy.

Some questions you may wish to ask is, will the amount of time I put into this justify placing my project on a temporary hold? Or can I place my project in a subordinate position to his so as not to fall behind? Who or what help do I need to remain focused and balanced?

    Thnaks, all,

    These are great suggestions.

It sounds stupid, but part of me was focusing on trying to get a sale on the post-optin to a sales page.

I was going to write an autoresponder sequence, but for some reason it didn't occur to me that many people would buy from that. (Remember, I've only been studying up until now.)

What do you guys recommend as far as email frequency after the first opt-in?

And should each one try to sell?

I know how to craft a good email, with helpful content, but is it too much to do a soft-sell at the end of each one?

Thanks, again, you guys are great for both instruction and inspiration. I hope I can give back as much someday.
