Hey Guys,

Haha, I know, crude title, but I couldn't resist something funny for this. Let me explain.

I just saw this site I hadn't seen in a couple of years. The 15k Challenge that Dan Raine did.

When I first saw it I thought it was pretty ludicrous. Who really takes $150 and turns it into $15,000 in a month?!?! And how in the world could I ever think about doing something like that. That's an insane return on investment.

Now, I want to try it myself. The thought of competition (even though it's with myself) is way invigorating.

My problem is the penalties.

Do you guys have any ideas for something fun, but still mildly unpleasant? Or just something really funny?

I don't have a following like Dan Raine did, but a penalty on the internet is still pretty fun.

Maybe it'd even be worth putting up a little blog for or something.

Thoughts?

-Lance

You could even make a blog like "embarrass my way to fame" and just do loads of embarassing stuff but chuck in sneaky marketing tactics .

Sorry to 'attack' you (but I really love you), but I'd say ideas are a dime a dozen.

It's carrying a good idea to it's fruition by doing is the heart part.

@butters that's pretty close to the first thing that came to my head. As a college student standard punishment (get blanked in beer pong, etc) is a naked run, but that's not internet appropriate.

It's just way cold outside right now for a mankini.

@AnnaHamer I wouldn't follow quite the same rules, and I think I could definitely pull it off. I've come pretty close. My way would be a membership site + affiliate offer on the backend, and forum market and then flip for four months revenue to a competitor.

Well whatever you do, would be good to read a blog about it! then you can make more money and make a product out of what you did. Turning $150 into, well, who knows.

It's late here, my brain isn't working to well

If you want to make 15k in a month and provide quality entertainment embarrasses your self, make it go viral, bam, your make some money. I remember dans challenge, I think he sold something like lucky charms from social media or something like that.

@Butters, yeah he did like crafts with all forum marketing or something. The amount of time he put into that was nuts. I think it was mainly so he could turn it into a product.

@Anna, I'd bet money you're right! I think it'd be a fun thing to blog about too. It'd take some serious discipline to make sure I was blogging daily or bi-daily and keeping up the work load too!

It'd probably be one of those things that'd I'd just leave as a blog. Selling to marketers is a cool idea, but I think I'd have to hit it with a way long term strategy. Right now I just like selling them websites.

Thanks for the feedback so far guys!

I think the only way you can actually do this is by forums, social media. You haven't got time for lists in my opinion, you don't have time for SEO or articles, well maybe articles, who knows. If you want to do this, you will need to find a market which sells something cheap, which is a unconscious buy for the user, so under 5 bucks.

More importantly you will need to plan it out Just think, if you make money from it, you can always sell that plan :p. But yeah, you need to think of a way to pull in $500 a day, not an easy task.

Hahaha, dude, life is a party. Live it up. But try not to get blanked at beer pong.

I agree butters. Social marketing is definitely the way to do it, but I think it'd be way easier to do a market with higher price points where you do a pretty cheap membership site micro continuity style.

Here's what I'm thinking would work pretty well.
    1. Enter a market that accepts mid range price points and has a lot of conversation (right now I'm thinking options trading, or real estate investing).
    2. Make a pen name and gmail account.
    3. Register at all the big forums in the niche.
    4. Register a twitter and facebook for the pen name. If I already had a facebook I'd probably just link them, but go by my pen name for the market (I guess the pen name is really optional).
    5. List the top 20 products in the market.
    6. Break down the most desirable bullet point of each of those products and choose the most desirable for your primary membership benefit.
    7. Write your sales letter based around the benefits you see the market strongly desires.
    8. Setup wordpress blog with wishlist member and a semi custom theme (I do graphic/web design so I'll be quick).
    9. Take that top bullet point and make a quick video about it for a squeeze page and sandwich page (props to Russel Brunson for this step)
    10. Find a dope affiliate product that has great reviews and list as an upsell after the opt-in. Gotta be high quality, and $97+
    11. Start voraciously reading and starting conversation. Immerse myself in the market.
    12. Go to the bookstore and outline the subheads for the biggest points.
    13. Spend 1.5 hrs each day on the forums. Spend .5 hrs on twitter search looking for people talking about my market. Send out tweets and status updates from my phone.
    14. Create the content to match the bullet points. Keep learning, and keep the conversation up.
    15. Get the 125 members @ $29.95. ($3750/month x 4 months = $15,000 min flip revenue)
    16. Contact top 10 direct competitors and offer to sell for 7 times monthly revenue.
    17. Compromise and do a quick flip for 4-5 x revenue.

Rough, but I think it's feasible.

Selling high valued products to someone who doesn't know you is very hard in my opinion... Micro continuity can be good if you got a list, I am assuming you are starting from nothing of course. Building that list up and trying to turn it into conversions will be hard to do in a month because there isn't a lot of time to build a relation ship before selling to it... If you want to sell an info product make it 27 bucks with at 7-15 dollar upsell. I remember reading in a book, I think it is the power of persuasion "Sell your highest price product first, then sell them something new at a much lower price." Not a direct quote but rough example. Why? You can't leap from 30 bucks to 100, its to steap, its easier to go from 100 to 30.

Butters, you could very well be right but I'm gonna give it a shot. Until I have data I'm just guessing anyways

Affiliate Kung Fu, I don't find that attacking at all. It's just a true statement. A bad idea that is used for something is better than a good idea used for nothing. Good reminder!

Thanks for all the feedback guys =)

I have a good one, you have to go to your local curry house and eat a phall curry, the catch is: No rice, No naan bread and you can only have it with beer.

It sounds cruel, but it's doable! Firm but fair I think. Plus you should film it coz you're gonna want to put that up on youtube.

    ummmm...interesting.

Just to put in my own goofiness off of what you already said...

Create a social network using the dolphin script.

    Site name: PunishMe.com

Add videos that promote stupid activities (stupid stuff you or someone did) and have a PunishMe invitation sent to the users friend list.

Let the member base of the social network comment on how they would punish the offender.

Use the extra ad space run on CPM and CPA.

Have the thumbs up/down voting system labeled as "put me in jail" or "keep me out of jail".

I guess you can go two ways the more professional way and actually sell a product or making something viral by embarrassing your self We are all hoping for number 2 . Of course make the best decision which suits what you want to do best. Viral can be great profit, it can be no profit, it all depends on what you do.

If the thought of making money motivates you to take on this challenge, maybe the thought of LOSING money will really light a fire under you.

      Here's how it works...

Choose an amount of money that feels painful to lose (for you, at this time -- could be $100, $500, $2000, $10,000, $15,000 -- whatever). Then add 10% to that total.

For example if $1000 sounds painful, then make it $1100. (And if your initial amount plus 10% feels "doable," keep upping the amount until it feels scary to you.)

Next, set that money aside. Perhaps give it to a trusted friend. Or set it up an a separate bank account.

Next, set up a blog where people can track your progress.

Finally, set up your challenge. Everyone who subscribes to your blog has a chance to win money... but only if you do NOT meet your goals. Maybe it's just a random drawing of three people. If you don't meet your challenge, these three random subscribers get to split that amount you initially put away.

      ***

Naturally, doing it this way means you're going to have a blog full of people who are good-naturedly rooting for you to lose. So to combat this, you can instead create merit-based prizes (that are, again, only given out if you lose your challenge).

      For example:
-- Prize for the person who gave you the best advice.
-- Prize for the person who posted the most encouraging messages.

Stuff like that. Keeps the messages positive.

      ***

      In sum:

      1. You stand to lose a painful amount of money if you don't meet your goals. That should be a good kick-in-the-pants motivator to achieve your goal.

      2. You build a blog full of active subscribers.

      Cheers,
      Becky

P.S. You can also use this kind of punishment privately. Just give that painful amount of money to a good friend, sign a contract outlining the ONLY instances when you can get that money back and under what conditions your friend gets to keep the money, and start your challenge.

Set up a punishment that doesn't take time away from what you are trying to accomplish. If you spend time blogging every day about how you are doing and what you plan to do - that's time nothing is being done.

You could set up a bank account and decide on an amount of money you can put in the account weekly (enough to feel it). Set your weekly goals for your money making plan carefully.

Every week you don't meet the weekly goal, deposit the set amount of money into that bank account. If you meet or exceed your weekly goal - no deposit necessary. You only have to look at it once a week and it will help you stay focused on your plan.

At the end of your time frame - donate the money to your favorite charity or cause. If you don't "get er done" you'll have a healthy donation to make (and a tax writeoff) - if you meet your goals the donation will be smaller but you'll have enough income to match it if you want.

Becky that's a solid idea. Fear of loss is stronger than potential for gain. Plus that's really putting my money where my mouth is versus having something that is hilarious anyways.

The ideas keep getting better and better.

Hi Lance, The mankini and cold weather is a "good" combination in as much as the colder it is the greater the potential embarrassment could be, sure you know what I mean!

Something that could also be pretty amusing if you "fail" is to take a bunch of red roses to the largest shopping mall near you and ask young ladies if you may serenade them with a suitable song or poem. You would be down on one knee of course and may be dressed in a tuxedo etc.

Thinking about it, this is a much better option than the mankini/cold weather scenario because everyone just laughs when you can't sing. You would be pitied for life for your potential cold weather shortcomings in a mankini!

Good luck with whatever you decide.

    Regards
