This is probably the fastest way to build your list...

Everyone knows how to build a list. You get a freebie, like an ebook, create a squeeze page for it and drive traffic towards it using various methods. If you use only the common free traffic methods like article marketing, forums, bookmarking etc. you will probably just get about 5 - 10 signups per day if you are lucky.

So how do the big guys grow their list so quickly without using PPC?

Adswaps!

If you can grow your list to at least 500 subcribers, you can leverage it by doing ad swaps to grow your list very quickly and easily. Adswaps mean that you broadcast someone else's ad to your whole list in exchange for them doing the same. You can do adswaps with people with lists a lot bigger than 500 and quickly grow your list. As your list gets bigger, you can do adswaps with people with bigger lists. Imagine getting 300 signups just from one email?

There are various places on the internet and also on the JV thread on Warriors Forum where you can look for adswap partners, and it's really easy to do this, the only thing you need is to grow your list to at least 500 so that you can start leveraging it.

So, for all the newbies, start using your free traffic generation techniques to quickly grow your list to at least 500 and start looking for adswaps to quickly grow your list!

Than you for the information. I am just getting started, can you point me to a good place I can purchase a list to get started so I can grow one as you have lined out?

On of the faster ways I use to build a list, is doing an interview of a person who is just about to launch a new product. This way I can make some money in the process, by promoting the new product to my list at the same time.

I know of people that bought lists millions strong and didn't make a cent off it. Rather pay money for adwords and build your list quicker.

I agree too. Buying a list is like shooting in the dark with no targets. It makes no sense. Even in the offline world, marketers are loath to buy prospect lists.
I've actually never given consideration to AdSwaps but from what you've said here, it's taken my interest.

yes, adswaps are probably the easiest way of doing it. Although you need to start getting a list your own using other traffic methods before anyone will do any swaps with you.

Adswaps are great way to build your list fast, but so many people get it completely wrong.

Just make sure you don't do them too often, and only select adswap partners that you trust.

One bad adswap could kill your relationship with your list.

Great article, I'll give this a try, I have a few huge Internet Marketing friends with huge lists, and they say they built their lists fairly quickly by just emailing other Internet Marketers and offering them help in exchange for a list swap. Your way sounds a lot better thought, so I'll be giving your way a try, I have a fairly average sized list at the moment, but I'm a person who likes huge numbers

I've been building my list really fast through two tactics:

      * Offering a free WSO (signup required) for a product THAT EVERYONE NEEDS.
      * Integration marketing -- offering a special sample of my same product to list owners to send free to their list (no signup required) as a value add for their subscribers.

What then? I mean how they get onto your list without the signup?
Do they like the content and come signup afterwards?

I am very sleepy, sorry if I didn't get something too obvious.

Why, yes... adswaps are the fastest way to build your list, but you can't just walk up to any Joe and ask for an adswap. Can we get into more specifics?

Also, I've been tinkering with the idea of an adpact, not just an adswap...

Most adswap listings ask for list owners in related areas, with similar sizes of lists. Some say they are open for multiple ads to show on their -say- 5000 people list in exchange for an ad on a bigger (say 10000 people) list.

I was wondering if more could be involved in the transaction (eg. ad on blog front page for a month for an email blast to 10K people). Or would you think that the way it is, it is more clean a deal?

What I have in mind is really barter space for available IM assets... but haven't thought about the details yet. You guys think there would be a market for this?

I am in the middle of learning about adswaps, and one of the tips I have been given is when you approach someone to do a swap, say you have 20,000 on your list and they only have ten, do a like for like swap, but give them say 12,000, it all helps in building a trusting relationship.
