Got credit for a Clickbank sale I never threw up a hoplink for...how?

Just checked my Clickbank sales for the day and noticed a (small) sale for a product that I've never had any affiliation with and have definitely never thrown up a hoplink for.

It's a top gravity product on Clickbank that doesn't seem to have any connection to anything I've ever sold. I've never sold anything to this buyer before either.

Any idea how that's possible?

could be that someone put their own affiliate link in wrong and by stroke of magic it was yours...seems to be slim to none chance though. Are you absolutely sure you never have ever had any affiliation with this company or product?

Extremely unlikely considering the user ID at the end of my hoplink...never any affiliation with the product either. Very confusing.

Sometimes Clickbank holds credit for 6 months as a safty net for the refunds. The credit most likely came from a sale you made months ago, and now is when Clickbank releases the funds. If you want to find out why or were the credit came from, why not just call them up.

Nah, it's for a pretty new product. I guess I won't question it. More concerned about the potential buyer having somehow done that to exploit my information in any way.

After googling his name, I can see that he's an internet marketer. Not exactly sure how he'd be able to use my hoplink to further advance any of his agendas though. Just confused.

That would make perfect sense. The product is one of the highest gravity products on Clickbank at the moment and it's brand new. Interesting strategy.

This happened to me soem time ago, I contacted the vendor, who said they were sending a complimentary sale to affiliates of their first product in the hope of attracting them to promote the new product.

You all have me wondering if it was just an assumption, but I thought if someone followed your hoplink to CB and bought something else instead, or as well, that you would get credit for that too?

That would seem to be a pretty simple explanation.

Was it for $6.43? I got one today as well.

      Explains the high gravity maybe?

        Only $6.43?

What's the price & commission of that product on CB?

Maybe they changed the price and/or commission to a low value, made a few hundred "fake" affiliate sales, and then changed the price / commission back to the original value... just thinking

No. Only if it is another item in the same vendor account.

Hmmm... I received one of these as well ($6.43 sale), and I KNOW that I have not promoted that particular product.

I got a random $6.43 sale a few days ago too. What an interesting strategy to game the gravity score.

As far as I can see there is nothing against CBs TOS by doing that, but it certainly make a mockery of the gravity score (not that I take much notice of it anyway).

In my case the sale came on my vendor account, not one of my affiliate ones, so I'd guess that they have harvested IDs from the marketplace and dumped them into a rotator script on their sales page.

Could it be possible that you tried promoting it once or twice say on yahoo answers or something? If there is NO way possible that you ever put out an affiliate links, then the only other thing I can think of is that someone typed their affiliate link in wrong and put your clickbank user name in instead of theirs.

      Isn't that kind of fraudulent?

You didn't help make a sale, there was no product/service sold BUT clickbank is still paying you?

Could be a lawsuit in the making.

This is almost the same as giving away $900 in "bonuses" to get
people buy your new Amazon book for $12.95 so you can get

Interesting strategy to say the least.

Is it a twitter system? Assuming the $6.43 figure is correct, it's the only seller offering that exact $/sale value. Not going to publish the CB seller id though

I never believe the hype with huge internet marketing product gravity spikes anyway. It's a cheap product with only 50% commission. But the author is respected for his flagship product no doubt.
Ok, my bad. I assumed it could not be not that obvious...
They have partially achieved it - it is being seriously promoted (I know that from other sources) by a few marketers.

Very interesting tactic if the vendor is indeed doing this. I can't imagine what legal ramifications are behind this, as surely this is against Clickbank TOC's?

That's the worst thing. Most IM'ers are not on WF, and most still believe gravity equals to conversion.

It's been 9 days from the day it got accepted by CB. Even for this kind of seller (his other launches are notorious) I think CB should take action - this is just unacceptable.

Well since Clickbank doesn't have popups or upsells that gives you credit like the rest of the Internet, it must be fraud.

I didn't recieve a sale from them but when I checked cbengine this morning
I saw these new guys ruling the top gravitiy list. I never heard of them and I
found it kind of starnge that so many people were promoting them and making
so many sales from this offer. This product is in the MMO niche and I haven't
seen anyone sending me emails about it.

And gues how much their commission is? I just knew it this morning and
happy to read this thread that confirms my assumptions of this morning.
