Should I open Affiliates Links in New Windows

Everything I read says to open links in the same window.

But my site is a little different - it's a dating site so users will, more often than not, click over to one of my affiliates then come back to my site and click over to another of my affiliates.

To make matters worse, while on an affiliate site, they may click on 10-20 pages - which means they would have to hit their back button 10-20 times to get back to my site.

Any suggestions?

Run a test, the results will speak for them self. However, I would add the _new tag, so it opens in another window. However, only after I tested it.

I prefer to open links in new windows so that my site maintains a presence on a readers' desktop.

I guess you could look at it either way. I always make the links open in the same window...my thought is that it "commits" the user to looking at the new site I am directing them to, so they're not distracted by two windows at once...

Open your links in a new window and a lot of browsers will consider them a form of pop up.

This will stop the redirect in a lot of pop up protected browsers .

So, do you have your links open in the same window? Is that what you're saying?
The browser I am referring to is like fire fox ... internet explorer...ect.

Their pop up blockers can be set to stop pop ups .

A lot of people set these controls to max . When this is done ... no pop ups are allowed whatsoever.

I just see the potential for losing a lot of sales by pop up blockers .

I don't do affiliate marketing in the traditional sense . I do offer affiliate products to some extent but only to my list .

I have a true list builders mentality . I would rather have your email address as the front end sale . .

Personally, I liketo open any new link in a new tab. This way if you close it accidentaly, your previous page is still there. It's also quicker to get rid of what you took care of and still keeping your main page easily accessible and easier to open windows.

Use it as much as possible, makes it all easier.

I have done it both ways and it's pretty much even on all the stats so I'm going to have to say it's a matter of preference.
Sometimes a new window can be viewed as a pop up and be blocked.
Do a test and see if you have any difference in stats yourself, otherwise it's just whatever YOU want to do.

I use both ways on my sites. Any links that opens to a page within my site then I use the "same window." Any links that go off site, I use "new window".

That very interesting info about the pop-up blockers.

Well, it sounds like people are about 50-50 on the subject, so I guess I'll just have to give the "new window" option a try and see what happens.

      On a related note:

Would opening in a new window have any effect on my bounce rate? When a new window is opened does google see this as leaving the site (bouncing) or will they count that user as still being on my site?

      Thanks!
