How important is support to your success in IM?

I was thinking about this the other day...my husband is very supportive of my IM endeavors and I know I wouldn't be able to do everything I have without his support. It got me wondering what other people think and whether they perceive that support is important or not.

People around you have to support you. If they don't support you in what you are doing then you are around people who don't share your vision or goals and ultimately your happiness.

I don't really get much support for any of my online money making activities.

I mean my family members think its cool that I make money online, it's just that it is boring to them.

In fact, I have yet to meet someone in person who is passionate about making money online.

So I'm pretty much by myself with all of my endeavors.

I like doing it, so that's all that matters I guess.

But what about the support you get on forums like this one? The internet is a great way to develop a support network of people who can help you. You don't physically have to meet them.

Also, the fact that your family do not tell you to 'get a job' is support enough a lot of the time.

        That's my $0.02 anyway.

        Cheers,

I think support from family is very important, I also think support from other Internet Marketers can help A LOT. I mean if another guy with a huge list in IM promotes your product then well...that will help loads, so I do believe support is Kind of important

Most of my support has come from other IMers. Without their support, I don't think I would be able to do this. They offer lots of encouragement and guidance. Many people around me get worried if you don't have a "brick and mortar" type of job that you go to everyday, so it may be difficult to rely on them for the support you may need. I've made decisions based on what other IMers have shared with me, which propelled me in the right direction.

I'm with SuzukiE. My family still don't believe you can make a living off the internet. I guess thats why they still have a boss to tell them what to do.

I receive no support, per se, because no one really understands what I do. My wife tries sometimes, but she doesn't even know how to turn my computer on, so obviously she isn't going to understand much. It's actually when she does try to offer support or help that problems are caused, precisely because she doesn't understand this world.

If you want to call a "lack of interference" support, then support is important.

I believe the answer is simple, for most people anyway:

    $Money$ = $upport

You may be 100% dedicated to your online entrepreneurship, but if you're not making money, don't have anything to show for it, most common reaction from family & close ones is: "You're wasting your time with it, go get a "real" job and make some money to pay bills".

However, if you start making GOOD money with IM, good enough to support your household and enjoy a comfortable life, then that attitude suddenly changes from "you're wasting your time" to "wow you're a genius, keep it up".

So if one is the kind of person where moral support can make or break their goals and projects, then it would be very tough for them to succeed in the world of IM.

That's my opinion and experience on it anyway.

I'm new here and still learning my way around. Nice to know though that there are folks here to offer enouragement and share their successes. One thing I have noticed in browsing is that there seem to be a few people who have been members for only a short while and have well over a thousand posts. Where do you find the time? Just curious.

Thanks everyone, for your responses! I really appreciate it! It's something I've been curious about for awhile.

My husband didn't "get it" at first either. Then when one of my membership sites started to take off and he saw the recurring income...that helped him grasp the concept. :p

There's nothing like seeing the bank account grow bigger and bigger to help someone see the light.

Support at home is very important. What I feel is even more important is Forums like this and other Mastermind Groups. Besides getting support at home, I am part of small group of 20 Internet Entrepreneurs who are not in WF and have access to hundreds. Being able to brainstorm with them online and offline is one of the keys to my success.

Being an IMer can be very lonely so it can be very frustrating not having family support you.

Forums are great to interact with other IMers but if you can attend conferences/seminars etc and can actually talk to others that is even better.

Hi Lisa, I am with a lot of the others on this one. I don't necessarily have huge support just because family and friends aren't into it and don't really know what I do. It's ok, though, it's not as if they don't support me. And it also makes me all the more proud when I push myself to try new things on my own.

That said, I also agree with the others that having people to call on online, other people who do what you do, really helps

In my case, my family thought that I was getting scammed until I received a check from Google, but still, they don't believe me when I tell them about all the marketers earning +10k per month, and of course, they call me crazy because I'm sure that I will be earning that soon.
But I don't care about that, actually, I feel kind of motivated, because I'd love to show them how wrong were they.
