I personally prefer to go through Elance and that's only for the quality of articles that I have gotten from there.

Plus I think they have the best functioning website as well. As I see it, a good website will typically attract the best people as well. Just be sure to know exactly what you want before you post anything. You want to make sure that you are getting what you need - not what someone else "thinks" you need!

Sorry, I can't speak for guru.com. I've never used them.

I am apart of a couple of other forums and will either contact someone personally or go through Elance.

I'm pretty finicky when it comes to folks writing my articles!

I don't use any of them. When I want something done my team doesn't manage, I spot the experts and contact them.

From what I can tell after months of reading freelance blogs and stuff I can tell you that ALOT of freelancers don't give their best because they know that 90% of "contractors" are bargain hunters...most will use freelancing sites like Elance as a startup...to get 2-3 websites done for example and then make an online portfolio and start charging the real deal...so a site that costs $500 on elance...if you hire a professional designer that doesn't work with freelance websites will cost you $1000-$2000 or MORE.

But, like rich said...they do know their stuff extremely well, they give their best (cus now they need word of mouth adv. since their "on their own" ) and most of them are an absolute PLEASURE to work with.

For designs I say you use 99designs.com (I even heard ppl say that is too expensive...how can it be too expensive when you pay $700 for a website and you get 50 different concepts? )

    thats all...

I use RentACoder or elance depending on what i am after.

Avoid RentACoder for things like article writing (from my experience) but i find it very useful when things need to be coded!
