As for wikipedia , Ping is a computer network administration utility used to test whether a particular host is reachable across an Internet Protocol (IP) network and to measure the round-trip time for packets sent from the local host to a destination computer, including the local host's own interfaces.

that's what i know.. i use ping to test my network connection speed and realibility.

but for internet marketer...

i buy some wso suggested to do social bookmarking and ping it

Here's an example of a ping.

When you make a blog post and publish it, it can 'ping' to an RSS or social media service to tell them the post has been made.

It just sends a little message to say your blog has been updated.

No, it doesn't "equal" but they are all related in some way...

Pinging is a technical term when, for example, two blogs 'talk to each other' without any further human interference. E.g. you make a post on your blog and in the text you refer to one of my blog posts, giving a link to it. On my blog there will be a "pingback", shown among the comments and with a link back to your post.

The two blogs created an automated "dialog" (if you wish) just because you pointed a link to my blog. It works, of course, in both directions.

Another "pinging" is, as Louise explained, when you blogging software (e.g. WordPress) sends an automatic 'messages' to blog aggregators telling them that you wrote a new post.

RSS (called also Really Simply Syndication) as just that: syndication. You make your content available for RSS readers - or to be used in other sites by different application.
In Facebook, for example, you can use your blog's RSS feed in the application called Notes - it will display your blogposts on your Wall.

Social media has quite a large meaning... better get over to Wikipedia and search for it.

There is no such place as "social bookmark"...

Very useful reading to grasp the basics.
