Why do you flip websites?

Curious -- why did you start flipping websites?

Was it:

a) The allure of 'easy' money?
b) You liked being able to name your own price?
c) Something else?

If you successfully flip websites right now: Why do you continue to do it, and 'is' it a lot of work, or do you have a system set up where it is fairly easy to do?

I flip websites because it is something I tried and was successful at so I kept going. It is a lot of work though and if you do take a week or two (or more) off then your income stops.

I still flip websites but I'm trying to build up my more passive business as creating sites does get a bit tedious after a while.

I'm not currently doing this, but I did it years ago. Here are the reasons I did it:

    1. I love writing, so I liked building up a little site with some fresh content.

    2. I liked the variety. Different niches, different topics -- you never get bored. About the time you might get bored with something is the time you flip it.

    Cheers,

I flip them because I need the money. I like creating them too but if I didn't need the money to pay bills I think my time would be better spent working on my "passive" income streams.

It is a lot of work. Your job does not end after you sell the site, there is often a lot of customer support that goes along with it.

Like Sheryl said, if you take a break your income dries up. Also during certain times of the year (like the holidays) there isn't that much demand so earnings are low.

    Why I started?

'Cause at that time, it looked like the fastest way to make some money without investing a lot of money upfront. And needless to say, I was correct.

    Why I do it now?

Well, it depends on the situation. For startups, it's just another income stream for me 'cause I don't do much work and still bank $2500ish or so a month. For other websites, sometimes I need the money to invest in another project of mine... sometimes I just need to buy some gadget, LOL!

And yes, both Sheryl & cashcow are correct: Your income dries up if you're not flipping sites regularly. So along with flipping sites, you can work on sites that bring you money even if you're on a vacation and keep site flipping as just another stream of income.
