County Council gets 61 million spam e-mails in 1 year
I work a dayjob at County Council, and I just saw that the IT people here posted some interesting statistics about how much spam e-mail that gets stopped by our spam filters.
- Since april 2009, 46 million e-mails have been stopped in the filters because of spam
- 25 000 e-mails have been stopped because of virus
- In one year, County Council will catch approximately 61 million spam e-mails in the spam filters.
- The spam e-mails count for 87% of all the incoming e-mails County Council gets
- If we had no spam filters, and County Council employees spent 10 second on every spam message, 170.000 hours would get wasted yearly (and that's not counting trips to the coffee machine!)
The spam filters sends a reply to every spam e-mail, so that serious e-mail that some times get caught in the filters will know that their e-mail did not get through.
