Keywords: Focus on one or many?

I have been writing articles directing traffic to my wordpress blog for about two weeks straight now, and traffic has not been too great.

I have about 5 of the articles published with only 56 views, 5% URL click-through rate...

Here is what I have been doing with my keywords, which I think could be the problem....I have a bunch of keywords to use, so for one keyword, lets say "beginner futures trading" for example, I will post an article to my blog, then submit it to e-zine 3-4 days later.

Then I go to the next keyword I have, repeat the same process...I only have one blog post and one article published for each keyword.

My question is, should I just focus on one keyword? Instead of changing my keywords for every blog post, make every blog post and article submission on one keyword?

no your doing the right thing by focussing on one keyword or phrase per post.

If you are looking to rank well within the search engines make sure your article is using the keyword in the anchor text that links back - this and build links from a variety of sites and lots of them!

Sorry if this is a little ignorant but what exactly is the anchor text?

Depends on the competition for that keyword. If there is under 4 competing pages, one article will be on page 1 above the fold automatically, if there is 100,000 competing pages, you may need several articles, back-linked, etc to get on page 1 above the fold. (But there also may be much more searches... but not always so keyword research is a necessary ingredient.)

So the quick answer would be to keep checking position until that keyword is on page 1. Since it takes time, work on several keywords at once until they are on page 1 then move to the next.

I am not sure that I understand your question, but I will try to answer as well as I can.

I would recommend only using one to three keyword/post combos per article.

For example, you could use this keyword setup in one article:

    keyword 1/post 1
    keyword 2/post 2
    keyword 3/post 3

However, do not try this combo:

    keyword 1/post 1
    keyword 2/post 1
    keyword 3/post 1

Google will notice the first keyword per post.

    Hope this helps!

Thanks. Sorry if the question was confusing.

I was just wondering if people focus on using a lot of different keywords, or if they have more success focusing on just a few.

For example, would it be better to write 10 articles/blog posts on 10 different keywords.....or....write 10 articles/blog posts on just one keyword, therefor trying to dominate that specific keyword.

      I hope this clarifies.

I have drastically increased my click-through rate on articles by changing the format of the article itself and the author's resource box.

Ask the questions the reader is asking. Think like them. Get in the head of the market you are serving. Then answer those questions in the rest of the article. Lead them to a logical conclusion.

Try putting a call to action in your resource box and format it so your link is in the bottom right corner.

    This should help.

CCMusicman had a good WSO with step by step on how to do this. Not sure if it is available anymore or not.

    Hope this helps.
