Thread closing -- explanation

Just a request to the mods. I am *NOT* objecting to having any thread closed, if that's the decision of the mods then so be it.

I'm just asking the mod who closes a thread to post a short explanation explaining why, so we can avoid this in the future by not doing the thing(s) that caused the thread to be closed.

Just a tiny bit more transparency will help everything run smoother, eh?

    I think it was getting out of hand and they closed it before it turned into a train wreck. Let it go....

    Actually, a tiny bit more transparency will create twice the work for the already overworked mods and admins.

    If I'm thinking of the thread you're referring to, it's probably because it looked like it was going to head down the road of personal attacks. That's against the over-riding rule on this forum.

      The explanation why mods don't reinforce the rules by telling people publicly who violate the rules why their thread is being closed -- that explanation does not wash, sorry.

      If enforcing the rules is the reason, then educating why a specific thread is being closed will ultimately reduce the mods' workload because everyone will avoid that specific violation if they see the rule being aggresssively enforced.

        Don't go there...

        There is too much going on for the Mods to stop and try to explain everything they do, and the few times they have it typically results in a long argument with everyone trying to change all the rules in the forum.

        Bottom line, right, wrong or indifferent, the Mods call them as they see them and are answerable to Allen...no one else.

        The best thing you can do is sit back and get a feel for why something might be deleted or locked - but again, just let it go.

        Unfortunately, the mods have found out that telling people why threads are closed and posts are deleted often just results in people arguing about it.


        ETA: I was reading/posting at the same time Big Mike posted. He's right -- let it go. Don't go there. Just move on.

          Yes, it can be a little over the top but my best advice is try to NOT over analyze it and move on. I had a Thread close yesterday and it was a really , really good thread benefitting a Newbie suggesting to him that he might stay away from starting off promoting a Squidoo lense ( because he lacked money for anything else).

          No reason why on Earth it got deleted but the best thing to do as Big Mike said is to move on !! There is so many other great threads that dont get deleted that will benefit you

    If someone gives a reason, someone wants to argue about it.

    If the thread is closed someone will start a new thread to argue about it.

    If there is no reason given, there is nothing to start another thread about.

    This saves numerous people wasting too much time on another thread that will get locked.
