DepartmentofEnergy.com

I've owned the following domains for about the last 11 years:

DepartmentofEnergy.com
DepartmentoftheArmy.com
DepartmentoftheNavy.com

They currently sit at Parked.com and collectively generate about $500 a year.

Frankly, though I think these are domains that could be doing a lot better if setup correctly with sites -- say sites that centralize links, information, and ads concerning Energy, the Army, or the Navy.

Would anybody here at WF have suggestions on what kind of sites I should have done for these domains to potentially enhance the revenue they generate?

There are so cool little energy e books out there, that could go on the department of energy website. Also for the energy one, you could generate a list by giving away tips on how to save on their electric bill or something like that. I don't know what to do with the army and navy ones though apart from information site with cpa offers.

Having a quick look shows that "department of energy" gets 135,000 searches per month on average...why haven't you capitalised on that by doing something like a comparison site of the major energy providers?

You are sitting on a goldmine and you cannot figure out that solar and renewable energy each get 1,000,000 searches a month and maybe that is where you should focus your energy?

If you own the site outright why not see if you can license it or give it me lol?

I just do not get it, you are sitting on one of the most profitable niches in the world right now, or one that could be very profitable in the future and you have done nothing....

I am very confused as to what you are waiting for...

Basically, you are sitting on the golden ticket everyone in this world all hopes for and you cannot see it...

    Get it done!!!!!

In my case, I'd say it's a matter of having pressing responsibilities. And also of not having the personal experience or plan to execute the effort in an efficient manner.

Maybe I could cut a deal with one of you guys to develop one or more of these domain(s)? My address is chris @ chris franklin dotcom.

I appreciate your advice about departmentofenergy.com, Sparhawke, createrk, butters

I was wondering, Sparhawke, how you saw a comparison site on the major energy providers as somehow a profitable endeavor? Where's the money in that arrangement if you don't mind me asking?

Createrk was talking about "Go Green," ClickBank type ads which seemed to make some sense -- though we're talking a a government-themed domain and i don't see a lot of people disposed to buying private sector green products from it. But I could be wrong on that.

    Thanks for the advice

Compare And Switch Gas And Electricity Suppliers – The Motley Fool UK

Though it is the UK version the model should work for the USA, basically all you do is get a big list of suppliers, get someone to program for you a javascript calculator using the most common fields that people look at such as KWh or Cost and all the rest of it.

People come to your site as they have been doing, you compare their prices for them and send them off and get the commisions.
