Does anyone know how to set up auto direct messages when someone follows you back? Just saying "hi" and stuff in them? |

Don't do it. DMs are full of SPAM messages from IMers and you are just clogging the arteries by adding more. I dont even go near my DMs because I would spend days deleting them all. Twitter really has to fix that and provide a DELETE ALL DMs option. Also, using auto DMs can also get you nixed by the person you worked to get a follow in the first place, because it demonstrates your poor etiquette right from the get-go.

| Tools to Boost Your Social Media Productivity SocialOomph.com Some of the accounts we operate will auto-DM. Others, however, I'd never even consider it. Use at your own discretion! |

Many applications allow for this. eg.Tools to Boost Your Social Media Productivity SocialOomph.com - this allows you to add multiple DM, rotating so you dont send the same DM to all followers... I think its a great idea if you use it properly. Do not include a link or ask the user to check out your site, just thank them and make a connection...in a nutshell do not make it a promotional DM and you will get the users attention... |

I would generally agree with Marty S - it just goes against the principles of Twitter. When people do it to me, I completely ignore them and generally I won't trust them either. EDIT: Just saw ArticleDirectory's post above and I would agree that, if you do it at all, that would be the way to go about it. It's mainly the spamming of links that can make people seem untrustworthy in my book. |

This isn't in the IM niche at all, so none of the people who are following me will be used to this kind of thing, odds are they'll think it's really me messaging them. Thanks for the tips.

Doesn't matter what niche you are in, it's what your followers have already been exposed to. Even Joel Comm who wrote a book about twitter has complained about DMs.

Believe me, this is one of the worst things to do on Twitter. You'll be reported as a spammer, or have your followers stoping following you.

| Well I would say to use SocialOomph if you want to send direct massages out to people. |
