Hello Fellow Warriors ~

I have finally decided to practice what I have preached to my Children since they were little ~

"Pick something in life you have a passion for so that when you wake up in the morning you CANNOT wait to do it, just please make sure its legal."

Well, I have decided to implement my passion but need a little advise from my Warrior Friends.

In your professional opinion, what would be the best, most cost effective way to copyright an E-Book?

I hope to hear back from you at your earliest convenience `

Till then ~

Diane ~

    Just put Copyright 2010 - Your Company Name or Your Name

    That in itself will give you enough protection.

    In my opinion, you are sweating the details. I have written tons of eBooks and never did more than what I suggest above. Never had a problem and if I did, I have no clue..

    Create it + Market It + Forget about it... LOL!

    All the best,
    Derek

      Yep.

      Taking the additional step of registering a copy with the US Copyright Office is beneficial if there is a lawsuit (for starters, you get those all important attorney's fees ). But, registering is not necessary to have a copyright.

    A simply copyright at the bottom of each page and on your site is enough. Don't waste your time getting tied up in those few people that try to spread your ebook around for free. Its a big waste of time in which you could use to make even more sales.

    I agree with all of the comments above. If you are want to register your copyright(s), then you should check with the Library of Congress. Here's a link to their FAQ (no aff links...this is the actual LOC site): U.S. Copyright Office - Frequently Asked Questions

    This is NOT legal advice, and this information is provided for entertainment purposes only:

    - Notice of copyright must contain 3 elements:

    1. Year of publication
    2. (c) sign
    3. Author's name

    You are giving copyright notice on your book.

    If someone steals your book, you can sue them in the State court and recover actual damages according to proof as well as their profits.

    If you want to be able to recover statutory damages and your attorney's fees, your copyrighted work must be registered with the US Copyright Office prior to the alleged infringement or within three months of first publication of your copyrighted work.

    There is Circular 66 that applies specifically to electronic works that you can read at http://www.copyright.gov/circs/circ66.pdf

    It is important to understand that

    a. copyrighted materials are those snippets that are submitted to the US Copyright Office;

    b. with electronic works you may submit the entire work

    c. current waiting period to have your work registered is somewhere around 9 months according to the US Copyright Office what was posted on their web site;

    d. every new edition of your e-work should be re-registered
