Network Marketing...do you really want to build someone else's business?

I know a lot of folks are interested in Network marketing. A lot of them are in the closet because they don't want to be made fun of. Others are finding out about it for the first time and think "cool". Others are die hard mlm'ers that make things happen.

The concept of earning money from other peoples efforts on a residual basis is tempting. That's the attraction of MLM commission plans. You get people under you, they sell stuff, you get paid forever. You may never meet some of the people you earn money from. Nice.

Network Marketing has made large incomes from some, but MOST don't make enough to cover costs. There are some beliefs that keep floating around that MLM is a magic bullet to wealth. It is not. What the very successful people seem to skim over or leave out altogether is there is a LOT of work to be done before you reap rewards. A lot of work!

It works for many, but the majority leave disappointed and jaded. They got all excited, went to some rah rah meetings, couldn't sleep at night dreaming of the new cars and boats they were going to buy, then realized their income didn't flow.

Going to rah rah meetings is not going to make you money. It's much like reading this forum. You can read and learn all you want, but unless you do something you are not going to make money.

If you are tempted by a network marketing company I'm not going to say its bad, but you better consider what you are doing.

Do you realize its going to be work? Hard work, and the more you do the more rewards you'll get.

Do you realize you are going to have to spend money to promote it? The signup kit is nothing. The real money comes in web sites, travel, time and effort, and marketing. Yes... you actually have to market both the products and the opportunity.

Do you realize that most network marketing companies have good products but they are expensive? You can't compete with WalMart. You must "sell" your products. Its a good thing most products are unique and of good quality. They are certainly not cheap.

Do you realize that most people you get interested in the opportunity will drop out? Its a numbers game and you must keep getting people under you until you get a critical mass. One or two relatives under you won't do it.

Do you realize you are building someone else's business? They tell you it's your business that you are building. In a way that's true, but you don't control the products, you don't control the opportunity, you don't control much of anything but your own efforts. You must get permission to use sales materials, etc. It's much like affiliate marketing, but you are less flexible to switch products.

If you are happy with network marketing then go for it. You might just make a good living or even become wealthy. You must know the upside and downside to it however.
