Hey everyone,

Does anyone know how or where to put the code for an opt in form in Wordpress? I use aweber and know how to do this in a standard html website but never have done it before in WP. If anyone could tell me how, I would appreciate it.

I just purchased "Artisteer" and so I will be creating a custom theme. Don't know if that will make a difference or not. Thanks ahead of time for your advice!

Most people put it in the sidebar (sidebar.php).

Basically, you have two ways to do it:
    1. Edit the code manually and place the aweber code there.
    2. Use a text widget and place the aweber code in it.

So in your opinion which would be easier? If I can find the exact place to put it in the code then that would be a snap, but what is a text widget? LOL, I am so green to Wordpress! Thank you so much for your help

I assumed even the themes made with A. have the widgets feature.

For beginners I always say the same: click every freakin' button in your admin panel until learn what is what!

admin Dashboard > Appearence > Widgets

Select a text widget and drag it into your sidebar.
Edit it and put the aweber code in.
        Save.

I think you are better off learning where the code goes in my opinion. It takes a get of getting used to, and is a pain the the you know what when you first get started, but when you learn you can customize ANY wordpress theme.

    Which theme are you using?

I haven't created the theme yet but am using Artisteer, so I have some options.

Check out this free WP plugin for opt-ins, it's very cool.

I'm not an affiliate for it, but was recommended to me from lots of friends.

Let me know what you think.

I've tried putting my opt in in my side widget in Wordpress but have had problems. I know it is something i'm doing wrong but not sure what it is.

When you input your name and email and press submit the site treats it as if you have search for the term on the actual site and returns 'no search results'. I do capture the name in my Getresponse autoresponder but gives the appearance that the site isn't working properly (which it's not i guess!)

I've never used widgets to put in code, so I don't know what the problem is there, but it is not that difficult to put the code in manually. Just copy and paste the RAW HTML code into your sidebar where ever you want it in if you want it to have a space of it's own you have to create a section.

You could make a post on your blog offering a free download or something and then insert your aWeber javascript code. Then go into your control panel and make the post sticky so it always stays at the top. Tis gives you a bit more room to add graphics or whatever.

You have to be careful with this method, because not all WP themes show posts in their entirety.

    scrofford,

If you are just beginning with Wordpress I warmly advise to start with an existing premium theme, use it, play around with it, try different plugins, ad existing widgets or create new ones, create different kind of op-in formats, etc.

Then consider building your own theme. Really... You will then discover if you need to create a new theme from scratch or just tweak an existing theme to your needs, and in case you want to create one from scratch, you will know exactly what features you need/want.
