A newb here who still doesn't quite understand how Google Dance works.

My site is about three months old and wasn't in Google under any of the keywords I'm targeting (which were in the metatags) for all that time. I started doing SEO a couple of weeks ago and after about a hundred high PR backinks, I found it listed 2nd under one of the keywords on Monday.

The next day it was gone, and according to Market Samurai it wasn't even in the top 500. Today Market Samurai has it at #190.

This is where I'm unclear how the whole Google Dance thing works. Can I expect it to go back up to the 2nd spot or in that neighborhood? Or is the dance over now that I'm at #190?

Some clarification would be much appreciated.

PR: wait... I: wait... L: wait... LD: wait... I: wait...wait... Rank: wait... Traffic: wait... Price: wait... C: wait...

Quite often new sites will rank well for a day or two and then disappear. All you can do is keep working at it. It could take weeks, months, or years for it to rank well again depending on Google's moods.

No one, in my opinion, can predict such a thing. I just became a victim last week, and was just restored today.

The only problem is, it was a new site that I had ranking like a mofo!

Promoting the launch of a new product, I beat all my competition and ranked #1 for about 3 weeks. Expecting huge commissions, etc.

Then day before launch, I thought I was sandboxed -- but I found myself ranking between page 5 and page 7 when I used to be number 1, 2, or 3 on the first page.

Now that the launch is about over, I am back in 1,2,3 of the first page.

    Go figure -- thanks Goog!

Only time can tell, and apparently, Google will find out what to do with you when the time is right. Mine was for a popular product launch, and the site will not need any longevity -- plus, 100s of other people were putting up new sites everyday on the same subject. That's what happened to me.

If you are in a popular niche, it will happen -- just work on gaining relevancy and credibility through links, anchor text, keywords, etc.

Yeah, it's pretty crazy. My site was at position 331 yesterday and today it's at position 24.

Quite apart from the google dance, you will be badly slapped if google figures you have an aggressive backlink project, that you're trying to manipulate your position artificially.

No-one really know exactly how google works, so you are unlikely to get an accurate answer to your question. Keep working, give google what it wants (content).

So, you want to sell me another way to easily make "X" dollars in "X" days? ROFL too funny! IM success requires hard work and lots of time. Most newbies do not survive the steep learning curve. Anyone who says otherwise is probably selling you a fantasy.

There are many theories and opinions on this 'phenomenon', but from experience and from looking around many other people's SEO campaigns..the 'Google Dance' is simply a way of Google's algorithm working on ranking your site where it thinks it is.

My take? Similar to others, simply continue your SEO strategy as per normal. Don't worry too much about it's rankings for a week or so.
