Videos on salesletters are good..but

We've all seen how the usage of videos is getting hyped up. its no secret that people prefer watching videos as opposed to reading text.

I know people will argue with me, but I feel the usage of text is more important. I see salesletters with just a single video.. and the quality is sometimes so bad that you can't stand it going on for more than a minute.

A video may be a good idea, but it has to be used with text as well. I'd prefer reading the features of a software or ebook in text form as its easier to skim (and ofcourse find the BS within) rather than wait to see a three minute video.

What do you guys think? Are videos overrated?

I think I am pretty indifferent on that, but I believe a PPS(Powerpoint or Slideshow) if effective.

I DO NOT like the sales pages with a whole lot of text -- 8 sales videos -- and they auto play -- that's what gets me.

Then they set up exitsplash to popup after the exit popup -- then you hear two voices simultaneously "Wait . . Before You Go . . ." . .. ugh!

I think a sales video and some text works fine, especially for clarification purposes.

But a lot of vendors have overdone it.

At the same time, Amish Shah released Magic Bullet System -- he had no sales page -- just a sales video -- and it was a real gem, IMHO.

I suppose testing has to be done in each case,

can you show some bad video sales letters, I want to see some, and see how many minutes it takes before I lose my attention.

I've seen a lot of debate on video versus text on sales pages, and really, there is no way to make a blanket statement either way. The only way to know what converts the best for a given product/service is to test both, combinations of the two, different layouts and positioning, etc.

There are just too many variables to say text or video...

Such debates usually lead to nowhere. What works for others might not work for you. How the video or sales letter was written might have a significant impact. There are just too many variables to consider.

It be more practical and fruitful to test it out yourself.

I agree, I deffinatley think a sales video works great in a slideshow/powerpoint format where the visitor can listen and read the benefits/features at the same time. A mix of both always tends to get my attention.

Ideally have a mix of both.

That way you can get to both types of people - those who prefer videos and those who prefer text.

There are tons of reasons why someone may prefer one medium over the other however you can only find out this by testing, as someone above me has said.
