I believe Internet Marketing is made up of plenty of smaller secrets, for example..

The secret of great copy
The secret of effective SEO
The secret of usability

And so on.

They are only secrets if you don't know them though.

I agree that there isn't a secret to running or starting up a business, online or offline. Both require a niche, a solid plan and hard work, as you said.

While many, if not all, of the IM essentials can be found on this forum, they are burried deep and take a while to find. That's why I'm a big fan of the all-in-one threads, it brings these secrets to the surface.

Having been around here for years, I can assure you that any "secret" would have been exposed by now!

It's simply about choosing a niche, putting together a solid plan and working that plan.

Sure it takes time, but there's plenty of that.

Actually, there IS one secret

And that is, it takes work.

While there is a ton of really great information here on this (and other) forums, the issue for many is either understanding how to apply the information they find, or their willingness to try.

I know - I describe myself from a few years back.

But like you said, the info is here, waiting to be mined and put to good use.

The only secret i know is whatever niche interests you stick with that niche and learn as much about it as possible.

The real secret is trying to understand it.

Mike, absolutely true, of course, on the work required, which I was actually inferring by saying that time is required.

I believe the use of the word "secret" all the time keeps new people from taking the first steps on the path - because they spend so much time looking for that holy grail.

"Secret" makes it sound like it's information for the privileged few, which of course, it's not. Before I went to university I knew nothing about 3-dimensional trigonometry, but that doesn't make it a secret.

It was simply stuff I hadn't yet learned.

Actually, you're right. I'm not sure that every little "secret" about marketing is here on this forum (as it seems like someone is always coming up with something), but there is enough info on this forum to start a six, seven, even eight figure business.

The only thing that's missing is someone to come along and put a pair of horse blinders on you (to avoid distraction and chasing unrelated opportunities) while lighting a fire under your tush to take action.

Maybe there are no BIG secrets, but there are new techniques.

How many times have we seen games changers during the last 10 years.

Google, Adwords, Adsense, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter...

Many of the principles stay the same, but there is always new "secrets" someone discovers on how to properly use these new properties to the best advantage.

Tomorrow one of the players will make a change, and there will be a new set of "secrets" we will need to explore.

The good news, since we are all Warriors, we will be on top of the changes, and ready for action.

  You are right picking a niche and working hard on it is the key. I have developed a lot of mini niche sites that make me money. But you need a plan behind it that will actually make you money.

I think that's definitely the crux of the matter. There's simply no need to know every last detail and every new technique to make a blazing success of your business, because the problem is that keeping on top of these can easily become a full-time occupation in itself.

But all the products out there say they will show you the secret hehe.

I am sure there are little secrets but not one big one, secrets to techniques but the principal on how to make money online is very simple.

Exactly.

Look at someone like Jim Straw, who's been in business and making money for over 50 years. He's made it offline. He's made it on the phone. He's made it in person. He's made it online. He's made it beating the streets with his feet and he's made it sitting in his chair.

He keeps making money because he just applies the basic business principles to whatever he's doing, online or offline. Simply: Find out what people want... and give it to them.

Hi Neil,

The problem is so many people purport the "secret" strategy in their marketing "discover the 'secret" to online riches in 3 easy steps" The reality is there is no quick fix it takes time effort trial and error and inevitably succeeding. But it is not the people's fault who don't know and believe when someone tells them they have the answer always before making any strategy or developing a plan due dilligence is required.

There a no secrets indeed, just knowing SEO, Marketing Principles and hard work and you'll be fine. People still want to believe their is an easy path to alot of money. I believe in traction and in viral marketing, however they don't come alone, you need to work to get it.

"Working online from home requires ... WORK! If you don't put the time into your own business your never going to make money. There are so many people that come online and thing the money is just going to fall in their lap for doing dumb little things or doing nothing at all. WAKE UP AND GET TO WORK"

I think that other than hard work the most important thing is sticking to your plan. When I started I kept buying "the next big thing" and I never made money switching methods. When I actually started to make a few sales it was when I made a solid plan and worked hard at it until I had success. I am still fairly new at this but picking a method and sticking with it is what made me have success.

I feel the real "secret" to success like I've posted before is the right knowledge , immediate action, and stay moving forward. There's a few things that
once I figured out everything came fast and easy. One is that you're true business is always marketing no matter what your product or service is. You always need to be marketing. One of the other big things is direct response marketing this way you only spend time with people who are coming to you.

Heres the secret.

Internet marketing is nothing special. It's just something that has brought new opportunities to business in the last ten or fifteen years. Business is still business and hasn't changed, it always required you to adapt, and still does. Once you understand business basics, the rest is just learning the new format.

congrats on your action Jerry. To make your business work it is going to involve time or money. So like you're doing now you have more time to invest than money, but when you get going make sure you start setting up systems so that you can spend your time (which is the most important thing in life and business) on money producing activities.

It is not simple as that. There are too many variables involved. Some niches don't work well for one of these reasons: people not ready to spend, too much competition etc.

But some niches do work. The best strategy is to expect one out of 5 niches to succeed. I would say that its all about: BEGINNERS LUCK + SYSTEMATIC REINVESTMENT OF PROFITS
