What should I do with friend requests?

Sometimes I get friend requests from people I don't know, and I don't want to be rude and reject them, but I also am a person likes to take care of open items. So far I accepted a couple.

Are there any benefits for people by getting a bunch of friends through friend requests here on Warrior Forum? If so, what are they?

Also, if I reject someone, will they receive a notice.

Thanks!

I'm like you in that I feel rude if I don't accept a friend request. I think I've maybe sent two since I've been here but I get them sent to me quite often.

I look up the person's back posts and see if they are decent. If they aren't or I really don't like that person, then I refuse it. As long as they seem okay, I accept.

I accept the ones from people whose posts I think reveal them as "real" people. I never reject one - but I'll leave them sitting unaccepted forever.

Dear April: I don't want any trouble from you.
January was long, February was iffy, March was a freaking dumpster fire.
So sit down, be quiet, and don't touch anything.

I'm terrible, then, because I reject them. Otherwise, I keep seeing the notification and it bugs me...lol.

I've had a couple send requests that had me smiling ear to ear, as they were people I highly respected. Only one has ever sent me a PM to tell me why they put the request in. That made my day because it was someone that I respect and read their posts eagerly so I felt honored by the request.

dvduval- I sent you a friend request because of the nature of your business.

I own a number of popular directories including two PHPlink directories. I though that it would be a good idea if I had a line of communication with you.

If you have no interest, that's fine- no offence taken.

And likewise! No offense. I believe I did accept your request (though a couple in the past from others I may have rejected not knowing who they were).

I'm more just trying to understand the motivation and benefits of increasing your friends in the vbulletin software and on warrior forums.

(so a general question, not directed at you, and btw, thanks for using phpLD!!!)

If I don't know the person I reject them. I don't really worry about hurt feelings because I don't know them anyway and most likely they are just spammers.

A person cannot have too many friends. If what you share helps them, they may ask to be your 'friend'. It doesn't hurt or give them any extra access to any information about you than they already have. There is not reason I can find to not accept them unless you don't like them. You may be able to use their help someday. If they are essentially positive people, it is even more reson to just accept them.

Reason I thought that post was about my friend request is that I sent you one about an hour ago and have not heard back.

Thanks for all your good work with the directory script!

I've rejected requests before too (and felt rude initially as well). But I don't want a lot of contacts on my friends list just for the sake of having contacts.

I have no idea why folks put me on their contact list. However, I send out friend requests to folks who I want to "follow" -- learn more about, read their posts, etc. And also to folks who I might want to PM from time to time. In either case, it makes it easier for me to find their contact info and/or posts -- just head to my contact list and see their recent posts, recent tweets, etc.

Yes, they'll receive a notice that says something like "dvduval thinks your breath stinks and your socks don't match. As such, this member enthusiastically slammed the virtual door in your face and denied your friend request. Apparently, you suck."

    Or maybe not.

Actually, I have no idea if a notice gets sent. But I doubt it, as notices don't get sent when a request is accepted.

    Cheers,
    Becky

I think I prefer to make friends simply by communicating with people. I suppose showing a list of friends can be symbolic, but in the end, it is what you say and do that matters most.

I generally just accept them. Probably the only time I would reject one is if it came from someone who has previously given me a reason not to be associated with them.
