hey guys, I'm going through 'affiloblueprint' course and and Mark was saying that he did a survey to his list to ask which platform they prefer and Xsite PRO came first, which surprised me as I though wordpress would have, I had never even heard of Xsite PRO before this

I'm not familiar with the "blueprint" but suspect that the fact that the author can get an affiliate payment for each XSitePro sale he refers...

I use both. They are not really comparable and do different things. If you carefully word the question the answer can be made either.

since wordpress version 2.7 it's super easy all the way it just keeps getting better all the time, the money you save not buying xsite pro, you can buy a great theme or some quality plugins,

Xsitepro all the way, make sure you buy through my affiliate link....

Ha, just kidding. WordPress blows xsitepro out of the water. Besides being free, there are plugins that can do just about anything you want. It is widely supported and loved by the search engines too.

It depends on the niche you're in. For some niches I wouldn't ever use wordpress.

Personally I prefer XSP because it is easier to use, and I have better results using it.

It's not all about the ease of use, ya know. I don't use Xsite Pro, but I have used WP and yes, it's got tons of functionality, with more coming online all the time. However, WP sites can be a pain in the booty to transfer if you sell a site to a WP newb. Static HTML sites? Piece of cake compared to moving WP to another server.

Yes, before one of you WP cult members jumps all over me about that, I understand that there are tutorials galore on this very subject, that it's not as hard as I think, how dare I question mighty WP, etc. etc. I'm just saying, a LOT of people are totally confused by WP, and when you're brand new to it there is a definite learning curve to get up and running correctly. This can scare away newer site buyers. Being able to say, hey, just send me your FTP info, which you can get from one email to your web host if you don't know it, and I'll take care of moving all the files to the correct spots on your server and the site will be live instantly - exactly as you see it on my server.

    Just sayin'.

I agree here...they have two distinctly different functions.

XSitePro is awesome for a fast DIY website creation. It has easy methods to monetize, etc. It is WYSIWYG with a ton of features.

WordPress...Love it too! Great for blogs, especially.
I have a blog on wordpress that I am just in love with.

      It's like ketchup and mustard..

I like wordpress cause it's open source. Xsite Pro at any time could stop selling their software and you either own it or you don't.

If wordpress gave up, there would be forked versions that would still work as everyone has access to the source code.

I would rather depend on something that I have more control over for the long run.

I think they are both good. I have Xsitepro, but I prefer Wordpress myself. I am so used to Wordpress that for me it is simple to set up.

I also travel a lot and I don't need to have any software to use Wordpress, so I can update a site on any computer that has an internet connection.

I myself can set up a site in a few minutes. I have some favorite themes I designed that I use and I also keep the plugins I use for my sites in a folder.

And, unlike Xsitepro there are so many themes and plugins to use that you can design a Wordpress site to look anyway you want it.

It is true that Wordpress is harder to transfer between domains. But it can be done. Once you get the hang moving the database it is very straightforward and easy. The Wordpress codex do a good job explaining how to move sites.

If I were to recommend to someone who wants great looking sites, that are easy to update or change, I would say Wordpress.

I have both and use them for different things.

If I'm working for speed in setting up a product, I use Woodpress.

If I'm setting up something that is long term, then I take
the extra time and steps and use Xsite Pro.

I bought the the version 1, found a little learning curve,
also upgraded to the new version. I really like it.

Look at what your project is and I think that will help

Have used both, but IMHO XSitePro wins hands down. Just because I can turn out sites so quickly that actually perform real well. Plus there's some people there who are dedicated to supporting the product. I know WP has a massive forum coommunity but I generally get a better quality of support from companies I pay :-)

The big bonus with WP is the instant indexing. Shortly after adding new material, there it is on Google.

Isn't it like apples and oranges, though? Wouldn't you want a static site for certain benefits like, separate pages that appear where you want, rather than posts running down a page? And adding pages to WP can get very ugly when you have more than about 5-6 tabs at the top.

You have more flexibility in a static site, so if that's what you need, that's what you use.

Personally, I think you need both unless yours is a simple site with only a few pages but lots of articles that you can slot into categories.

I cannot offer an opinion about XSitePro because I've never used it, but I do like WP. For one thing, it lets me add content without building more pages manually.

WP is really not hard anymore, you can install it from fantastico even.

There is not even a comparison..its like comparing a bike to a ferrari.

I don't say that XSP is bad..used it myself when i started out in IM...but the concept of such sites is just very "5 years" ago. WP has a zillion more ways to configure/design and its free too.

In summation: Open source will win a commercial product 9/10 times. Largely due to it's ongoing support, themes & plugins. Hence WordPress wins.

    Applies to anything else too.

EG: Magento is a open source shopping cart used by corporations. And it blows almost any commercial/paid shopping cart on the market.

I did go through XSitePro tutorial (all 190+ pages of it). Love the software in every way. But that's as far as it went.

Today it's WordPress for automation. And Dreamweaver (worlds most powerful WYSIWYG software - by Adobe) for template, coding, everything else.

I'd say XSitePro hands downs for making money, and Wordpress for blogging.

I've used a whole bunch of different apps, and I ended up sticking with xsp. I honestly think the main two reasons are #1 the product itself #2 the community

Don't get me wrong though, Wordpress is great for blogging - but you cant make website designs with wordpress. Also there's the extra cost of mySQL on the server lol!

  • As another user of both... WordPress allows you to do so much more and look so much more professional. XSitePro was okay in it's day... but those days of compiling html locally then ftping over are .... well over.

My biggest gripe with XSitePro was each time you saved a page you saved the entire site. Sloooooow and painful.

I use both... like most here, and agree that it depends on the purpose of the site.

No one has even mentioned the security issues with Wordpress or the fact that you have to update the dang thing every month it seems or that BECAUSE WP is open-source that might not necessarily be a GOOD thing.

I also find them both to be tweaky and not perfect.

XSP has some really, really, bad code - wish the CSS was a lot simpler and less XSP specific.

Wordpress editor never works right for long for me... freakin' frustrating at times.

Both have learning curves and are limited.

Dreamweaver site creation still rocks... no complaints there.

I like that both WP and XSP have the same "create the shell once, just add content" approach, but neither offers the solution that I think someone could bring to the market by developing a better version that is a hybrid of the best of both.

So, which of you great programmers is up to the task?

XSP is kinda "duh" if you want a squeeze page, salesletter, and content page that are each different... because you can't easily integrate that on one site design or laoyout...

WP sucks if you want to use salesletters or squeeze pages outside of the template... and also if you don't want every site to look like a blog.

XSP's new commenting software is pretty good and can make any page a blog-like page... and as for Google love? I've found that if you actually take the time to optimize a XSP site like the software lets you do... just by following the instructions, you can get much love indeed.

Overall... I give the edge to XSP personally, my vote being swung by the security issue because I've actually lost several WP sites and databases completely by hackers and I'm still feeling the pain (I feel that way about a lot of open-source software, use with caution, imo).

But truly... neither sets the bar as high as it could be for technology being where it is - in my humble opinion.

I've got some ideas of my own for this... and have created one for my own sites that is almost ready to go, but not anywhere near what I feel a true programmer should be capable of putting together for the market.

Seems to me like a very ripe opportunity for someone to step up to the plate and quit playing around.

    What do you think?

I hope I'm not hijacking the discussion but it seems that one of the interesting themes that is developing has to do with whether to put all yer eggs in the WP basket (as I have to date). I use both and think they have improved a lot since I started building sites, the "boundaries" between the two are sort of closer in a lot of ways. You can use rss on static sites, or you can make wordpress look just like a static site, rather than a blog.

XSitePro does cost a bit but it has really come on and has loads of easy to use features, main benefits I find are ease of use, and the support/training is good when you're new.

Wordpress is also excellent and free, it's easy to use and very flexible, but if people have never built a site before they can get a bit bogged down in making a few basic changes.

I'd say don't worry too much, either is good in my opinion, have a look at them both and make your own decision, chances are you might end up using both wordpress and static sites at some stage anyway,

    all the best,
    Neil
