Does anyone here use any of those 5 hour energy shots in combination with IM? Today I saw it in the store and since I knew I had alot to get done today I bought it to try and see whether or not it would help me focus and keep me from falling asleep. And I just have to say that it works wonders. It's probably not very good for you so i am not going to be making a habit of it but for today it kept me focus for the full 5 hours that it took for me to complete everything I needed to do for the day. Has anyone else here tried this? Or any energy drink for that matter?

When I was launching my IM business I was working a night job where I could have my laptop and work online (while getting paid to be there, sweet deal).

The bad thing was I had to stay awake all night and yes, 5 hour energy was my friend.

It definitely works, but i would suggest using it sparingly. I got to the point where I had to back off. Not meant for regular use, lol.

THere are lots of other, more healthy ways to maintain focus, including vitamins and "brain food".

I would imagine the main energy drink everyone here takes is coffee and lot's of it!

But im not a stranger to the energy drink either and they do work.

In the long run i would imagine all of them are not too good for you especially if your loosing out on sleep because of it too.

I like the 5 hours. They do work wonders. Only 4 calories. Much better than that other stuff out there (rockstar, red bull, etc.)

Oh..will it have the same effect as energy drinks..

we have a local brand of energy drink here that
works best with me. However, if I'm not able to
take it for a long time, i feel sluggish..I guess
      it's the side effect..

Also I don't sleep much. Most of the time because
of working, but also due to spinning my wheels..

      All the best,

I've taken 5 Hour Energy 3 times when I was drowsey and needed to get stuff done. All three times I was sound asleep within 20 minutes of taking it. Didn't work for me, at all.

I use it all the time. It's great stuff. I mostly use for long road trips.

I heard that you can buy it in bulk at Costco now.

Hmmm, this reminds me of my college days. In all honesty, chemicals such as those in 5 hour energy and other energy drinks do help stimulate the mind, but there are potentially harmful side effects on our bodies.

I remember literally ODing on red bull when I was at school and I was literally flipping out and shaking uncontrollably, hallucinating, it was bad. From that moment I promised myself these sitmulants are not worth it and I would never do them again.

My point, yes they can help temporarily stimulate your mind but in my opinion I would rec using as little as possible

    my 2 cents

This happened to me with rockstar but I didn't shake or hallucinate, just was going crazy because I could not sleep!!! I was mixing it with Jager to make Jager Bombs.

I just stick to coffee > I occasionally get smack for it, but coffee has its benefits as well as its drawbacks... I'm actually at the point where I know exactly how it'll affect me in a given situation; the first cup in the morning will wake me up and take away the groggy feeling, the second cup (if I have it) will be for pure enjoyment, and any after that, well... that'll only agitate me.

I used to try and get work done by pulling all-nighters with coffee, but it backfired. There really is no replacement for nourishing sleep.

I don't use most energy drinks because there is far too much sugar in them. If you drink rockstar for example it has almost 93g of sugar in it. If you've ever looked at a bag of sugar it is 803-807g. That means if you drink about 9 of these a week that is equal to eating an entire bag of refined sugar.

that was my reason for choosing 5 hour energy. It really has no sugar in it which fits in perfectly with my diet.

If you are a heavy coffee drinker, those energy boosting drinks won't do much for you as you are already acclimated to caffeine.

The "go" factor is a fast hitting caffeine and sugar of one type of another. The caffeine keeps you awake and makes you feel focused, the sugar gives a quick kick but rapid decline or crash later on.

You could get caffeine pills and take them with a coke and have about the same reaction. I agree, though, b complex, vitamin b and some exercise will do the same thing.

Red Bull and others are now popular as mixers on some college campuses. Yo still get drunk but you're a wide awake drunk.

I used to be a red bull junky but I am not really a big fan of energy drinks in general. Today was my first time trying 5 hour energy and I only tried it because I really needed to get stuff done and I knew I wouldnt be able to without it because I had a very long day. After drinking it at 6pm I literally sat at my computer and accomplished everything for the day for about 6 hours with 1 20 minute break for food in between. It felt great, once I started coming down i got the chills though which wasnt very cool but not nearly as bad as red bull did. I agree that there is no replacement for sleep, however with all the stuff I have to do in life I find that a good nights sleep still leaves me drained in the mornings. And by the time I get home from school I honestly just don't want to do anything which is the reason for me not getting stuff done. I won't be using 5 hour very often, but I will definitely be utilizing it in the future whenever I launch a new product or do something that takes alot of time.

If anyone can suggest an all natural alternative with natural energy so that I don't mess up my body, I would love to hear it. I already go to the gym about 3 times a week and I spend time outside and away from the computer. Once I get working I get things done so I know that im not just lazy, I just have a very hard time staying focused.

Haha, Kay you can party with me and my buddies any time you want. The only time to drink Red Bull or any other energy drink is as a mixer.

Don't know how the whole depressant + stimulant thing works and why it just wouldn't do anything, but I guess the stimulant must be way stronger.

Not sure how anybody can focus while being deprived of real sleep. Don't think any amount of energy shots, pills or caffeine can help people stay focused on their work.
Best thing to do is just listen to your body and take a nap. Power naps can help, like maybe taking an hour sleep.

I tend to use Energy Drinks occassionally. I have bounced back and forth between Starbucks Moccho Frappucino (not an energy drink and the 711/c-store variety) and either Starbucks Moccha Energy drink which claims to use real milk in it or Rockstar's Roasted Moccha. Any of the 3 work wonders for me.

But the common ingredient in almost all Energy drinks is B Vitamins. So one could get that same energy by eating eggs for breakfast every morning. Sometimes I go as far as to eat eggs or cheerios (another high vitamin meal) along with drinking one of the above mentioned drinks.

I took the 5 Hour 'potion' and became dizzy & lightheaded. I couldn't WAIT for the stuff to wear off! I know that everyone's body is different and most people don't react that way. Still, that kind of reaction is a warning signal, IMO.

I have never taken one of the 5 hour energy drinks. These energy drinks are not good for you long-term. What I have been taking is a supplement called MaxGXL and it helps me stay focus. What it dose is helps increase your glutathione levels in your body. One of the benefits I have seen from taking it is staying focused and more alert. Take a look at my signature link if you would like more information on the product. There is a audio recording explaining the science behind this product.

P.S. I am not trying to push this product on any of you. Just sharing what I have been taking.

I'd have to say they are the WORST energy drinks ever... lol. I used to try them in college and they resulted in me oversleeping a few midterms.

Monster no carb works very well, I also like the Vitamin water 'energy'.

The BEST energy drink I've ever tried so far was Venom

I was driving home on an 11 hour drive, started falling asleep at the wheel, grabbed a venom. It woke me up almost instantly and I wasn't tired for 2 and a half days after. I crashed so hard though when I did actually sleep.

I only use 5 Hour Energy as a last resort, but I'll use it in a pinch on occasion. I appreciate that it doesn't have sugar (and consequently no "sugar crash"). Every time I drink it I do get quite a boost and I get in a task oriented mode. I always blast through my to-do list.
